I created a mod myself because it seemed as tho all the others only focused on one issue .... corruption etc.

My biggest problem was the government situation... ie they are all very close to being the same. I made it so that Depotism has a max research at 60%, monarchy and republic at 80%, and communism and democracy at 100% ... then i decreased corruption for communism ( it was ridiculous - corrup in communism is worse than depotism) i set it so democracy's corruption is left at minimal, republic and communism have more, then monarchy, and depotism is kinda bad.

Some other changes i made involve the units, they are all the same until gunpowder - after that it basically works that all units have +1 def and off (ie musketmen 3-5 instead of 2-4) this was to get a little seperation between eras, as it stood unless you were the french gunpowder wasnt worth much. Once i changed that unit i basically had to do that to all including the specials and even bombardments up one.
One other thing i did with units was bumped up ship movement,
Most of the older ships were 3 or 4 movement, i bumped up to 5 or 6. and the newer ships were like 6 - i bumped up to like 10.
This is because i play on a larger map... (if you dont like it change it)

I also beefed up the defense on the aircraft carrier. A defense of 8 was ridiculous. How many aircraft carriers have been taken out in history? only ONE, and it was a japenese carrier. - so i bumped it up to 14 this way it basically has to have a few ships go after it ie battleships with 16 attack etc...

Just to limit corruption a little more i tagged the temple as reducing corruption, this is what was done in the corruption mod, but i felt to many things were tagged, so i stuck with the temple. (+ the courthouse already tagged)!!

There is also i wealth error i fixed in the genral section, both the book and the online help say it should be set at 4 - it was at eight on mine, so i switched it.

Finally i changed the sistine chapel to count as a cathedral in every city on continent as it does in civ 2.

Personally I think these modifications make for better game play - i may have to alter some slightly but there were a couple things the game is near unplayable with out (ie the govs being virtually the same.) - if a make a few changes i'll add a newer one.

Just out of curiosity, did you do all of this with just the editor, or did you have to change files that a person without any programming knowledge couldn't change?

Not bad but I think aircraft carriers should be quite defenseless as they actually are. Without its escorts even a modern carrier is susceptable to many different forms of attack. Not sure where you get your military information but lots of carriers have been sunk before, including American. Heck in the battle of Midway and soon thereafter the Japanese lost 4 carriers. I don't believe any sail age ship should be able to take them out however.

On the Sistine Chapel, does that change mean it no longer doubles the cathedral effect, instead just acting as a cathedral in each city? Or does it both count as one in each city and double the effect? Personally I'd rather have it double the effect than just count as one everywhere since they're not that hard to build.

He used the editor for all that. It's a powerful little tool, though it's missing a few really handy features.

I just used the editor, I was just looking for the quickest way to get the most out of the game. After useing it, I felt it made the game flow much better, and thought i'd post it, however if you dont like it dont use it. If you do like it and just dont like the idea that I used the editor instead of programming, your more than welcome to take the time to create something a little bit more permanent with the same ideas, in fact i'd love to see it!

Thanks, and no offense was intended toward your mod lion 575 or the fact that you used the editor. I was actually asking because I don't have the game (yet) and was curious as to how much the editor can do, because I certainly wouldn't be able to do anything like it without the editor.

Yup.... in WW2 many Carriers were sunk... statistically even more than Battleships. Just a little selection:

4 Japanese Carriers in the Battle of Midway: Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, Soryu

1 Jap. Carrier (the biggest in that time, because it based on the hull of the Yamato Battleship Class): Shinano (sunk by a single Submarine btw)

1 American at Guadalcanal: Lexington

1 American at Midway: Yorktown

1 British Carrier: Ark Royal

Standard Procedure in World War II was to escort a Carrier Group by several Destroyers and possibly some Cruisers (Battleships were seldom used because they also had to be escorted).

At least yet another one British, called something like Bravery. Was sunk by massive submarine attack on the convoy she escorted.

if you know recent naval history you'd also know that the USS Forstal aka the forestfire was almost sunk when it had a cruse missle hit a jet that was landing the missle was fired at it and then the F-16 crew saw the missle while trying to land and at the last seconed just hit the missle with the tail of the bird and then made an emergency landing on the deck and if you've never seen roughly 20'000 gallons of JP5 go up then you ain't seen nuthin according to my dad who was on the damn thing and was the ships asstiant fire chief
