What about Europe?

I've been working on a huge (180 x 180) map of Eurpoe and the Mediterranean Sea. I really liked Marla Singer's map, but Europe was too crowded, so I started this one and tried to encompass the area with the greatest concentration of civs - namely England, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Greece, Egypt, and Babylon. I selected the area so that portrugal is on the west edge (note that this clipps Iceland off), the top of Norway and Sweden to the north - leaving a strip of navigable water so a port at Archangel'sk would be useable. The most Fertile area of the Nile is on the south edge and most of Morrocco. The east edge includes the east tip of the Persian Gulf and the west half of the Caspian Sea.

I considered including more area, but I wanted England, Italy, and Greece to all be large enough to be able to build more than a couple cities. One trouble is that this leaves an awful lot of uncontested grassland - Spain, Morroco, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe (Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania, etc.). So I'm considering adding more start locations since only 8 civs on a mostly land based huge map can get a bit out of hand. I have all of the coast done and it's looking good so far. Working on addign terrain and rivers now.

Where to put resources is a bit of a problem. Having no jungle, there is no good place to put rubber. I don't think there was really ever spice or silk in Europe either.
