What Achievements have been the hardest to get?

I was just looking at the achievements I have and I went through the games where I got them. Some of them were extremely easy, you just got them by simply playing while some others were a real challenge. You may think of achievements as you like, but some of them... I must say I have a certain kind of pride attached to them .

What are the stories of your achievement graspings? Which ones were the toughest, which ones do not let you sleep and you ve tried 100 times? Which ones are the most tedious?

In that context I really ask myself HOW 12% of the players did not discover a ruin and 15% did not get a unit promotion...v:confused:

Hardest: longest name ever achievement (still haven't gotten it). I usually don't go wide, so founding/getting 33 cities is a challenge.
Most tedious: sink 357 ships as England.

Have they changed the achievement for Japan post-G&K? Getting a unit to 1hp would be near-impossible in G&K, let alone accomplish the rest. The achievement isn't too difficult in CiVanilla, though.

The 1000 Temples achievement was difficult for me to acquire because I refused to save scum.

I still can't figure out how to get the "Rate a Mod" achievement.

I think that there's some special code that lets a unit that would otherwise have died instead survive with 1 HP. I've had units survive in such a way far more often than should otherwise be possible.

The hardest achievements are the ones to download, play, and rate mods. They just don't work for me. :(

I tend to like achievements when they're actually achievements, unlike the 'win on settler/chieftain/etc...' ones that seem to be there to make up the numbers. I find achievements with an aim to them kind of like the Rise & Fall mod from CIV4 I loved the individual VC's in that.

I'd assume people playing with mods straight off the bat.

My personal one is: Wonders of the ancient world, deity. Man, that was a tough one. Needed some starts at immortal where I got to know the map and tactics, then tried at least 7-8 games at deity before it finally worked. It drove me mad because I wanted to succeed but I just wasnt able. There was basically no other achievement I needed more than one or perhaps 2 tries.

Unfortunately though that Alexander was able to build 3 wonders, so I had to grab 5 (oracle does not give so many points and of course Alexander had more points on cities and population). Was able to conquer 3 and build 2. The game was intense, it was my 7th try and I was in front, so there was an actual chance I might finally win. I knew: If the Great library would go to Alexander (who made every other wonder) I ll lose. I attacked him with my whole army being shipped - and were massacred horribly by his fleet. Sumerians and Hittities were already killed, so chances were good it was going to Alex.

Then it turned up: Great library built - for a second I didnt realize who it was - then the relieve, it was Ramesses.... PHEW! Great feeling!

Hardest: Deity Ancient Wonders.
Oddest: Lose Samurai invasion of Korea as Korea. Sounds easy but was really tough.
Most Tedious: yeah, I'll go with the sink 357 ships.

The 357 ships one sounded too tedious to even attempt.

I’m having a hard time getting a win with the Iroquois because I don’t like their play style. But I am 10 turns away from a win with them right now:) Panzer Shaffernator will be hard because I tend to drop games before I can finish them, so I probably only have 30 wins recorded. All in all, I just don’t like spending 12 hours to finish a game.

I don`t do achievements- ever.

Is Longest Name England? if so you can kill several birds with one stone; large map, kill ships, make many cities, easy game setting.

No achievements are hard to achieve, that is, if you are willing to exploit the game itself to get them.

By definition, any scenario diety, and emperor+ difficulty achievements are really hard.

The most tedious are the numbered ones, especailly the temples one (but there is a very easy way to do this without needing to necessairly "cheat").

We are Family, along with the 3 Mod achievements I would say are not difficult, but broken.

For the British navy achievement, it helps if you get a large navy, find some barbarian camps on a coast, and park your ships two tiles away from the encampment. Kill off any units they spawn so it stays empty, and sink the ships as they appear. It will speed your count up faster than just going to war. A similar technique works for Barbary Pirate (assuming Gods and Kings is disabled).

Magellan is somewhat bugged apparently, lots of people report that one not working.

The difficulty achievements and victory achievements are easy to unlock...I did a tutorial video on how to unlock all those achievements in about a minute. It's just much more satisfying to earn them legitimately.

I am curious if you can make Longest Name Ever unlock by naming the city yourself?

The temple achievement is very frustrating to me. All the other counting achievements are things you can do rapidly, like build roads, cut down forests. But building a temple takes time and only one can be built per city. I haven't tried building one, selling it, and building another though. Two things on the temple count: if you buy it, it doesn't count. If you use advanced start to a later era, and build a city, it will automatically have a temple, and it will count. You could just start a new game in a late era, build four cities, then restart. After awhile, that should unlock it.

For the lose the Korea scenario achievement, I haven't tried it, but I have heard all you have to do is resign.

No, the only way to get it seems to be spamming cities (30-some, if I remember) as the Celts. You run out of letters before you can spell the whole name out if you try to rename a city.

Hmmm, would it be possible to modify the XML code so that that super long city name is the first name in your list (so your capital is named it)? And then you can modify the code back to normal afterward?

Or does making any modification automatically make it equivalent to a mod and thus ineligible to get achievements?

Of course making any changes to the source code has its dangers, but in this case it's simply rearranging the city list names.

Hi. How you unlock "We are Family"?

And that's the shortened version of the name. The full name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (pronounced "LLAN-VIRE-POOLL-GUIN-GILL-GO-GER-U-QUEERN-DROB-OOLL-LLANDUS-ILIO-GOGO-GOCH").
