I have Civ1 on CD for Windows. I hear in the DOS version you can see the waves rolling.

What are the differences in Civ1 (DOS) on 3 floppy disks and Civ1(DOS) on CD-ROM? How do they compare to Civ1 for Windows?

Would it be worth the difference to try to find the old DOS version, either on floppy disks or CD? Which would be better between those two, assuming I could find either?

I got Civ1 DOS Saturday from someone on Ebay, and I can see the difference for myself now between this version and the Windows one.

It fills more of the screen, there is more music - tho a little slow and choppy, but interesting and atmospheric, and waves do indeed roll up on the beaches.

The units are more primitive looking. In fact the whole thing is more primitive, but for some reason , it is a lot more fun and very addictive. More so than Civ1 for Windows!

Can anyone explain why?

Can someone post a screenshot of a Civ1 for Windows unit? I don't have Civ1 for windows.

Yes, the DOS version is the most attractive of all versions.
Why?
- The objects are bigger on your screen.
- The screen contains nothing but the game, so you can be hypnotized . In Windows versions, you see parts of Windows, which is annoying.
- The graphics look better to me than in the Windows version.
- They are also easier to read than Civ II graphics.
- Maybe the unit graphics are primitive, but they are effective.
- The world representation is very good, and when you get used to it, it is difficult to accept another one, even with more details.

100% Right.

That windows bars in the top and at the bottom doesn't let the game to hypnotize us...

(No, I don't have screenshots here at the university, and I don't have Internet at home... :( Maybe some others...)
