What Are You Reading Now?

That was allowed in a library!?

Um....lie...BREAR....e? What's that?

Come on, I need more material!

I just finished Robot by Hans Moravec and that is a very thought provoking book and highly recommended, especially the end! To give you a taste... the author argues (with good reasoning behind it!) that destroying, say, a warrior in the game civ3 is just as morally bad as killing a real human being! Very interesting book with some very very strange predictions for the not so distant future (2100++) of humanity.

I also just got done reading Cannary Row by Steinbeck, and am currently reading Biocosm: intelligent life is the architect of the universe (i forget the author), Mein Kampf, and The Elegant Universe.

Neither do I, archer. I'm a very confused person.

I still want a massive list of other books to go and read...at least, once I get time.

I read the Treason excerpt on Amazon, it was more than enough to convince me not to buy the book, even for entertainment....

"Decision for Disaster - The Battle of the Bay of Pigs" by Grayston L. Lynch

Downright disgusting, some of it is. Lowers my opinion of Kennedy even further.

Wolves of the Calla by King. I plan on rereading the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series after finishing it up.

Plus a few short stories from Dubliners in between.

I'm looking for a new book now.

I abandoned Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. Just wasn't in the mood.

I opened up Ulysses by James Joyce but it looked way to high-brow and big for me at the moment.

I was intrigued by the book An Exercise in Style by some french guy while reading a movie review. Its 99 different passages about the same event in different writing styles. However it seems hard to find and more like a writers guide than a book, so I'm not actively searching for it.

And in the meantime I'm reading song lyrics. :mischief:

Universal Maintenance by Darren A Madigan. Not available to the public yet, but Darren e-mailed me a manuscript.

Just finished Atlas Shrugged . Am currently reading "Future Shock" (by Alvin Toffler) .

Future Shock is an oooold book, especially since it's about the future!

I haven't read it, but his next book, Third Wave (printed 1980?) is probably the book that has affected me the most of all books I've ever read. It WAS very good, but today everything he wrote about has already happened so I would probably find it boring. I've also read Tofflers Powershift and it was quite good as well.

Nothing. Moving to the dorms forced me to abandon my ebook reading lifestyle, so i'm now migrating to regular books and desperately trying to find a store that actually sells sci fi in English here in Israel.

When Amazon say that I'll have to pay 7$ for shipment and another 4$ for every book I buy, do they really mean it? I dont want to buy 3 10$ books and pay 50$ for them. :/

Just finished Guns Germs and Steel, now starting The Road Less Traveled.

Bleh, that was a waste of a few weeks of reading time for me.

I can read better fantasy stories about perfect people who get everything they want...

The Mythic Dimension. Basically it is observations by Joseph Campbell on mythology, with a hard science and psychology to pseudoscience and pop psychology technique. The guy is absolutewly brilliant. Anyone who has trouble understanding the Eastern mind will have an epiphany as the author draws parallels that any Westerner can understand. He also sheds light on obscure Occidental mythology as well. I always thought that certain sections of European mythology were rather bland, but he takes it in so many directions, and explains the psychological basis and implications of different myths and symbols. Anyone interested in the historical psychosocial aspect of anthropology would definately do well to read it.

Just read the second book in the Vampire Chronicels(Anne Rice), now i am reading the Artemis Fowl books. My plan is too finish all thre Artemis books and then go on with the Queen of the Damned(Third book in Vampire Chro...):goodjob:
