What are you weaknesses in Civ2?

ofcourse when u know AI moves by heart, u dont use defence, only 3 units :) that are phalanx and they defend my cities for very long :P...
but one weekness that i dont like: is that i want to build a city in a best place, with all kind of resourses, sometimes i destroy my cities to build one super city.

well, i thing that my weaknesse can be only that i whant peace:-)
It's just to damn disapointed when u traing to be in peace and after some torns this ****ing **** attack you...:) thats very sucks... but revenge always coming 8) :)

My weakness is that I tend to let all my cities build wonders during what I call the great "wonder" rush without even giving those cities defensive units first and by the time I'm done with it,the AI have more cities than me :(

Where to start?

I over-defend early cities, I don't expand fast enough, I neglect trade, I fixate on getting GL and Leo as early as possible, I don't balance research properly (civil vs military technologies), I too easily take offence and get distracted from my longterm planning when the AI sneak attacks me and won't leave me alone to build in peace, etc. etc. etc ....

Lately, I've been soaking up heaps of good ideas from this site, but am finding it a bit hard to remember it all when I need it.

Sigh - I'll just have to keep practicing ... :)

My biggest weakness is that I am not much of a wartime leader. Maybe if I had been in ROTC while studying economics... My only effective military strategy, which is really an economic and technical strategy, is to go to war right after one of the three big power jumps a civ can obtain: Getting conscription first (in combination with Leos), being the first to invent the tank and being the first with nukes. Conscription+Leo's turn all my "defensive" units into rifleman whose attack value of 5 (7 if they earn vet status) is sufficient to make a dent in lower tech units, even when they have city walls. Ditto tanks, at least before mech inf start to show up. Nukes require no explanation...

My weakness is concentration... I don't know if I have ever been able to actually finish a game that I didn't make purposely small and quick. I play 5-6 hour tournament chess games easily, but with civ I find that as the turns become longer and longer, I become ever less likely to reload.

I have many weaknessed.
The first one is that I treat Civ people just like I would treat real people, so i just can't avoid giving the citizens what they want (in fact, right after I build 2 defensive units in a city, I put it into AUTO build, and I only change this when I go to war).

The second, and bigger one, is that I just can't get out of a war. I often have my cities well defended, and build some attacking units in all cities. Thos units remain there waiting for war. Then I get attacked, and I jump on my enemies. They ask for peace... but I almost always refuse to sign peace, and war goes on and on and on and on...

When wars comes to a stalemate, I leave some cities producing units and develop the other ones. War becomes part of my economic system, and it makes my development a bit slower. Sometimes I keep myself on war against a certain enemy for a thousand years. It's very weird.

Wars may stimulate the economy, but at the expence of the government. As the government must pay for the war goods, it will eventualy come full circle. In WWII, there was stimulation of the economie, but the governments all got into serious debt. Wars are fought to "kill people and break things" neither of wich gives economic gain to the aflicted party. And when both sides are killing people and breaking things, it will be detrimental to both parties. Thus a long war is bad for the economy and that is reflected in the civ 2 game.

In the Real World, wars only give the appearance of stimulating the economy. Wars, or at least big wars, do put everyone to work. However, as any economist will tell you, employing people is not an economic gain in itself. The wealth of nations is not guaged by gold in the treasurey and the wealth of individuals is not measured by size of the paycheck. Real wealth is the value of goods and services available to a person or to the members of a society. If the economy is producing war materials, then less is available for consumers and they are poorer rather than richer, even if everyone has a job.

Hmmmm weaknesses?

Not searching enough

Not jumping in the water soon enough

Going after wonders too aggressively -- missing out on addition expansion

Staying in Monarchy too long

Delaying the gains from trade by not moving to a celebrating Monarchy

Not shifting to Republic (with trade in action) soon enough

and not developing the skilled art of early conquest activity when the opportunity shows up.

One of my greates weaknesses is that I put my ideologies to the Civ 2 game.

I always rush from Monarchy right to Communism. Some times I also put on Republic. But I never turn into Fundamentalism, as I am an atheis and playing a Fundamentalist nation would be weird.

My biggest weakness is still not sticking to my original plan for a particular game. Of course another weakness is no plan at all and I am good at that at time.

Lately I have been doing the wrong thing on my Civ2 wars.

I'm good with strategy. But some times desparation or excess of trust in the strnght of my forces makes be leave strategy behind and send tons of soldiers to death in wasteful tacticless attacks.

When I am at war with someone, I just forget to keep my diplomacy with the other civs, and, if they decide to come and declare war, I just acumulate enemies.

In the end, I almost never accept the cease fire agreement of my defeated enemies, and keep my attacks on them.

But I often start my wars with a huge army and a great reserve of gold. After some turns of war, and after conquering some enemy cities, I just have no gold or attacking units anymore. Then I start to build many weak attacking units, just to keep the war going on and to keep my enemies away from my cities. Thus the war lasts for centuries.

In those long wars, I often stop using any kind of strategy and send my weak attacking units on "human wave"-style attacks.
If I accepted the cease fire and took the time to build a new offensive army, I would be capable of destroying my enemy in a few turns from the starting of a new war.
But with the weak attacking waves that I throw, my victories become slower and slower, and sometimes there's a stalemate in the battlefields for decades.

Oh, and I also do not like to use artillery units such as catapults, cannons and artillery. So I just send knights/cavalry/armors to direct combat.

oh yeah guys about that spaceship to alpha centauri, how do i launch it? I built it like for three and still couldnt launch it>

:Spearman vs. tank: i had that once warrior killed my mech inf. that was fun he cptured my leo wonder and killed my navy with subs

You have to make sure everything's hooked up. Did you have enough SS Structurals?

The best configuration for a space ship for speed not necessarily for points is:
15 Structuals
6 Components (3/3)
3 Modules (one each)

There could be better arrangments, but this one IMHO works pretty good.
