I play the Dutch a lot, so Seafaring and Agricultural, and then Scientific for the boost in tech advancement.

Agricultural for population growth, industrious to build roads, religious for least downtime.

industrious > commercial > scientific > agricultural > militaristic > religious > expansionist > seafaring

Why do you hate seafaring?

You should try an Archipelago map with 80% water then. ;)

Even on Pangaea maps, a three-move curragh is a quick way to meet distant neighbours.

I agree with that. I almost always play Pangaea so I have real experience of the value of exploring with currahs.

Well industrious, agricultural, and scientific seem to be the favorites. All of them are very useful traits.

Agricultural is disabled as a trait in my game.

Scientific is useful for the half-priced scientific buildings and the free tech every Age.
Religious is good, culture-wise, for cheap temples and limited anarchy during revolutions.
Industrial has...fast-er workers. For some reason I've always though highly of it. Might be a carryover from the pre-Conquests days when it was stronger.
