- I only set number of civs on a large map to 16, because I like playing everybody on that mapsize.
- I also set Legionary to upgrade to rifleman because Romans don't need pikemen, and their legionaries are useful next to musketmen

Any other things that I have overlooked? I only want to know about standard tweaks (because you consider the defaults on certain units/improvements/wonders not correct/realistic), so please no completely modded bic-files..

/edit: Just noticed that Riders/Immortals/Samurai weren't upgraded correctly so I set those to cavalry as well

I set all the dead-end foot units to upgrade to riflemen, change all bombardment to lethal, give artillary 1 defense to allow arty to kill arty, and give units hit point bonus to make it less likely for a spearman to kill a tank. Middle Ages +1 hp, Industrial +2, and Modern +3. Oh, and because ships are so slow, I added "Treat all terrains as roads" to them to make them move three times as fast so that it wouldn't take them years just to cross an ocean.

My most radical changes were to the helicopter, which I felt was pretty useless. I changed it to a land unit with 4 moves (all terrain as roads), and transport of 2, so that it can actually pick up and drop off infantry in enemy territory like it was supposed to do.

How do you do that (make the foot units upgrade to riflemen ?) I noticed that in the default civ3mod.bic the upgrade path goes Swordsman -> Legionary -> Immortal. So I made the Immortal upgrade to the Musketman. But so far I have not been able to upgrade Swordsman.

Have you enabled the Upgrade Unit check box in the Special Actions section for Swordsman, Legionary and Immortal, as well as select Musketman as the upgrade unit for the Immortal? You need to jump through 2 hoops to get a new upgrade to work - check the Upgrade Unit Special Action, and select the unit it upgrades to in the drop menu.

I made this mistake at first when trying to get Cavalry to upgrade to Tanks. Interestingly, it would allow me to do Shift-U upgrades of all Cavalry to Tanks, but not individual ones (in v1.17f).

Hope that helps.
Ralph.

No, I hadn't realized the 'upgrade unit' check box existed. Will have to give it a try. Thanks !
