What civ do you play the most?

I will usually change every game, to have more variety in each, and decide which VC to chase as I go along, leveraging the Civ's uniques. Finishing a Portugal game right now (drowning in gold on a huge map of "small continents", feels so OP), I feel like trying Spain next (but I might change my mind still!)

Favorite civ so far was probably spain. not many civs really focus on the "another continent" mechanic so it opened up new wonders, policies etc that i normally dont consider.

The one blonde girl that flips cities was fun as well for the same reason- loyalty stuff.

Georgia. I find each game completely different since I play off the nearest City States to choose my victory type and obviously this is constantly randomized. Always stays challenging and fresh.

Runner ups are Canada, Zulu and the Mayans.

Although I do play a lot of different civs, Germany is probably my favorite to play. The extra military policy and combat bonus vs CS is nice, and being very musically attuned, I find their theme music kind of gives playing as Germany a certain ambiance that works for me.

Pericles is probably the one I do best with, the free wildcard policy I find very useful from the start as well as the suzerainty bonus, but as my piano teacher once said of picking Mozart over Bach, "if you held a gun to my head" I'd pick Germany.

Looking at Hall of Fame (only counts victories though) I usually pick random but a few of the more commonly played civs are picked. Mostly go culture victory regardless of civ but obviously culture civs are better. Usually if I'm not satisfied with my approach to a civ, I tend to want to play it until I get it right. I think I could do better at finding better approaches to Canada, China, and Mali in particular.

Canada 11
China 11
Russia 8
Rome 7
America 7
Cree 7
Sumeria 6
Mali 6
Greece 6
Sweden 6
Mongolia 6

Not Greek? Momma mia!

If your user name were Greek it would be Πειταπος. :p

Good to see someone else has a Greek keyboard enabled :mischief:

And, not to be a stickler, but if I'm understanding Greek letter rules, that word would need an accent in it somewhere. Likely over the omicron (the o), meaning the word would be pronounced pie-tat-os/pie-tah-tos.

And I find it kind of funny and I find it kind of sad that the most someone has to do to accurately "Greekify" a word is slap an "os" onto the end (which is actually how a lot of words are translated into Greek!). I love this language, but I can't deny its lack of creativity

Random. I usually let my civ dictate the victory I should aim for so it needs to be random to keep it fun.
I do the opposite. I believe that any civ can win any victory condition on deity so my self-imposed restriction/handicap that also increases replay value is that I have to play each civ on the same map script at least 4 times and get 4 different victory conditions (science, tourism, domination, and religion; score doesn't count and diplomatic victory takes too long-try to squeeze one in here and there but often skip it) Mvemba obviously gets a pass on religion. The downside is that after two or three games, I find myself in a position where I'm forced into following a particular victory condition from the start of the game, and things often don't work out to benefit this, so I'll save a civilization's "intended" victory condition for one of the last games (on that map script before moving on to a different map type.) For example, I've played 2 deity games as Magnificence Catherine on Continents with Islands map and won once via domination and once via religion. The next game with Catherine will head towards Science (while keeping options open for diplomatic victory, squeeze in an extra win) and finally I'll be able to "reward myself with a special treat" and play out her Tourism victory.

Back to the OP, another self-imposed restriction is that I don't allow myself to play the same civ within 8 games, so I don't have any civs with tons on wins yet (I emptied out my HoF after GS and again with NFP.) However, I'm breaking my rule and playing almost exclusively Spain and Khmer as those two are definitely getting nerfed and soon.

Yeah, I figured there should be an accent in there somewhere, but I didn't know where. I can read Greek letters, but I don't actually know Greek. The fact that Greek sometimes stresses the case ending, contrary to all reason, is probably why it still has case endings when very few other Indo-Europeans do. :p

For all I laugh at linguistic purists, I do appreciate languages like Icelandic that try to calque things instead. My personal favorite is the Icelandic word for computer: tölva -- it means "number wizard" or something like that.

I think my record is 62 city-flips in one game.

:wow:

Those kind of numbers really make you stop and ask "Why even build a military?"

Seriously, congratulations. That's a number to celebrate :king:

It seems like you've done more conquering in a single game with Eleanor than anyone ever could with a conventional Domination leader.

during the release cycles it was always just the latest civs , my usual go to civs are germany if i feel like playing a builder style and gran colombia if i want to blitz everyone

Sweden - I like Swedish empire history so that gives me extra flavor. Love the outdoor museum.

Byzantine - Strong conqueror with cool UUs.

Macedonia - Unique playstyle.

Ethiopia - Fun, rarely mentioned civ. The music is another underrated gem!

Hungary - The citystate playstyle makes them like Austria-Hungary empire. Two stylish UUs too!

Germany - Love the uniques and everything.

I giggle like crazy watching Eleanor flip cities. (I think my record is 62 city-flips in one game.) About 50% of my wins are with Elly.

I am very glad Eleanor is in the game. Not only I like the historic figure a lot, Firaxis also gave her an amazingly fun ability. For a whole year, I (almost) played only her to the point of doing some No-Settler / No-War Domination-only Victory.

Even if it would make more sense to play her with the Eldest Daughter of the Church, I do admit that the Perfidious Albion is more powerful and emphasize some coastal start, which allows some more and better trade routes but reduce the effectiveness of early enemy city's defections.
