I like to use the Ottomans but I sometimes get by butt handed to me even on lower level.Their UU is all right but it got beat by a conscript........and it was a
veteran :( [pissed]

I played and won as France... I conquered the Dutch (not much of an accomplishment :) ), the Kingdom of Naples, and a few British cities towards the end. I let the Spanish take care of the Portuguese for me, and didn't declare war on anyone else. Eventually, time ran out and I was ahead of everybody else, so I won. You definitely start out with an advantage in production and military power as the French, and if you're good at warding off your many foes and eventually conquering them (and not getting dragged into needless wars by those pesky Danish!), then you'll probably win.

Also consider dropping down in difficulty. What level are you playing?

It's not hard to imagine at all a generic conscript vs. veteran battle with conscript winning... how did the conscript's stats compare to your unit's? How did its health compare?

France.
Many strong UU's, militaristic and insutrious.
Wiped out The Dutch, then The Kingdom of Naples, than Spain declared war on me. I captured 2 of their cities (one of which was re-captured) and made peace.
Defeated Potagul. Captured Gibralter, and 4 other English Cities.
Stupid Denmark dragged me into war with Prussia.
I captured 2 Prussian cites. Than Spain wiped them out.
Russia declared war on me. They wiped out Denmark, and I took their holdings in Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and a little Austrian land. Then, I took all of Ireland from the Brittish, while Austria, Ottoman Empire, and Spain defeated Russia.

I won. :king:

Love to play as France and join forces with all Frederick leaders :D - that is
MY last name. I also change my army names to Frederick and LaRoque (my
mom's maiden name) ;) . All those alliances get to be tricky though :crazyeye: .

I've almost completed my first time through on this conquest as the French on Monarch level. I have conquered so far the Dutch, Kingdom of Naples, Prussians, Austrians, and currently working on the Spainish. I have captured 4 of their cities so far. I am probably not even going to land a single unit on British soil, except for maybe Gibralter. I have just used my Ship-of-the-Line's to keep those pesky Brits of my land. It has worked so far, and while the British navy outnumbered mine early on by like 5:1, now its only 2:1. I have gotten incredibly lucky RNG this game. Especially navally speaking.

I'm trying to get a domination win, instead of just by victory points, but this will be easier said then done. If I want a domination I will probably have to tack the juggernaut Russia. They have been my ally in my wars against Prussia and Austria and have captured an extra 4 cities from the both of them. Too bad my permanent ally never got conquered, I'd really like to have gotten that extra land. I guess if I do it again I won't take Prussia out quite so early.

I think I've played the scenario through to a stage of almost completion with every nation except France for some reason. The easiest game was certainly as the British as waiting a few turns to build a stack of units and then invading Northern France whilst keeping the channel clear seems to be very effective.

Had a serious attempt at playing France and its a bit odd having to hold off masses of units but I got Austria and Prussia in a war against Britain for the next few turns and that has given me some space to take Rome and above, Amsterdam and London after a two turn siege. I'm also at war with Spain, Russia, Sweden and the Ottomans.

Can you get a leader from a naval unit?

Nope. I don't think it's even possible with Civ3's engine.

Austria is a good civ. I conquered Prussia and Naples with them. Took out some of the Ottoman Empire and Sweden too. Just build alot of Hussars and keep France happy.

France. Definetly.
You start with great economy, military and size. It has the best UU's also. I'm in a scenario wher I conquered the kingdom of naples, the netherlands, and I currently own most of britain. Its a slaughter:D:ar15::suicide:

I played as Austria and I finished off Prussians, Denmark, whoeverer is in Italy, and finally France! (along with Russia and Otomans) smart decision! :)

To Dell19: Girl (I hope you are girl ;) ) you look amazing again! Hey 19 is your age? ;)

Thats basically how I've played the game but its not that easy as you have to deal with happiness problems and during the early turns I was pulled into a war with several other nations which made the game very difficult until they all signed peace and in the end started to fight on my side.

I am actually 19 but thats not a picture of me...

France is exciting, but I find the Austrian civ to be much more challenging.

Last time I plaed as british.
I captured Denmark and most of France with my allies: Russia, Austria and Ottomans.
After French campaign I declared war on Russians and conqured most of their holdings in France.
But then Austria, Prussia, Ottomans and Spain declared war against me!
I destroyed most of Prussia's army and then made peace with them.
But Ottomans destroyed most of my army after Prussian campaign.
Then HUGE Spanish SOD moved to my territory and conquered my french cities with the help of Austrians.
After that I retired :(
