I am just curious how many people in here are new to Civ completely and if not what game they started with?

The first I ever played was Civ 1 on SNES. After that I had Civ II on the PC and all the way from then I had each sequel and expansion up to and including now. This includes both the Call to Power games and Alpha Centauri too. I bought CiV the moment it hit the shelves. ;)

Civilization on the Amiga. But I never played that much. I didn't REALLY get into the series until Civ II on the PC and that took me a little bit to understand what was going on. Played that for years though...

Owned every game on your list except call to power 2, in fact I had to campaign with my dad for about three month to get a computer capable of running civ 1

I'm an old squeeker from back when my college roomie brought home CiV I way back in 1991. I had no PC at the time and my GF and I basically kicked him out of his room so we could play civ ! Well he had a lot of free beer and homework done for him. /halo

I started with Civ 1 on the SNES and then jumped straight to Civ 4. I wasn't so great at 4 and when Civ 5 came around the corner I was just about to take a crack at Noble difficulty.

I was about 8 years old when i first got into civ 1 on the pc, my brother used to play it a lot and when i was old enough i finally got to play it.

came across the very first one by mistake on my GF old computer many years ago and was addicted immediately. My biggest disappointment was CIV 3 without a doubt.....

started of with civ 2 on the Playstation....... i thought it was great, until i saw how much better the pc version was in terms of graphics and ease of use - lol. Then got 3 and 4 for the pc

Civ II
Man I had no idea how that game worked at the time, but it sure was fun to play such a detailed game at such a young age

My God I can't believe that I have been Civin' it up for almost 15 years now. I was in 6th grade when Civ 2 came out, and it's addictive, and educational, qualities have made it my favorite game ever since! I started on Civ 2, however quickly after I fell in love with Civ2, I had to go out and get my own copy of Civ 1 to familiarize myself with its background. Nothing could ever match the greatness that was Civilization 2! Alpha Centauri, however, was arguably just as good. Since then, we seem to get further and further away from that greatness. Just started playing Civ 5, and the jury's still out on where it stacks up. We will have to see what awesome mods Kael creates before I'll be sure yet.

I, too, have purchased everything Civilization related since, except for the faux Civ games, i.e. Activision's CtP series. I will forever hold a grudge against Activision for creating those. Some good ideas, granted, but I was so angry when I read in my PC Gamer that because Activision bought the legal rights to the Civilization name, Alpha Centauri would not be able to carry the Civilization title.

I'm quite shocked to read in the Wiki (yeah, had to double the year that Civ 2 came out) that Sid Meier had no involvement in creating Sid Meier's Civilization II. Does anybody have any feedback about that one?

Civ II on the PS One.

Civ3 introduced one of my favorite features! Terrain bonuses in combat! That finally added the one feature to creating a the fullest strategy game ever! I still have yet to be really disappointed about any Civ game, however Civ4 was really weird to used to right away, because of the negative effects of having too many cities. It made rapid expansion quite difficult.

The modding community, though, have been able to what initially started out as being my least favorite Civ game (still talking about Civ 4) and turn it into something classic in its own right.

As I thought, so far most of you are civ vets ;)

Civ 2
And I still miss the Wondermovies...

Civ 2 wonder movies were the best. Don't forget your very entertaining advisors.

I actually found Civ 2 because I was really into TIE Fighter and read a magazine that presented a Star Wars mod for Civ 2 that had a bunch of units from TIE fighter. Picked up the game and didn't sleep the first night I bought it home x-x. Yeah not even WoW was that addictive.

It was Civ 1 for me, the Atari ST version. I still have the box, too, and the awesome manual it came with. Except CtP, I have played all of them since.

Civ 1 on Amiga. If you played Civ 1 on SNES that only counts as like half of Civ 1... I remember my friend rented it for his SNES, and watching it just made we want to go home and play the real deal on a computer. It wasn't the same.

I had the first Civ on my Amiga 600. My overriding memory of it is not being able to skip the intro movie (which took an age). I got into it a lot more once I got Civ II for our powerhouse PC (166mhz, 32mb RAM, 2mb Graphics - amazing!)

Started with civ 1, on an old 486 . Played it until 1998 or so until I managed to get civ II . I'm still missing the building of your palace and I loved the losing screen :D . Of course the wonder movies of civ II were very nice, especially the music from the great library . The advisors were a nice touch too.
