What Civs are you permanently banning when the update comes?

No one, at least permanently.

If there is a particular leader I'm tired of seeing I might make sure they won't be in a game or two, considering I usually always do random opponents.

That being said it also might be interesting to do specific scenarios such as a game of "Post-Colonial Nations and Colonial Powers" or focus only on "World War II" civs as examples if we are able to name specific leader pools.

I feel like the AI is surprisingly competent with Tamar. Probably because she prioritizes walls so she doesn't get steamrolled as quickly...

I'd be tempted to put Russia on the ban list sometimes. Their futile hogging of great people is annoying.

I had a run where Brazil showed up every single game... At that point they'd have made the list

Probably Russia for the GP hoarding
Australia & Scotland for spawning in so many of my games. It's a combination of their hypocrisy (hates war but are massive warmongers) and their repetitive music.
Pedro for bring smug and I'd just be happy to never see his face in my games again.

In most of my games I like to pre-select opponent leaders to fit 'the theme' of the game (African Civs, 'Classic' Era leaders, Europe's Colonial powers). To keep things interesting I leave two AI-slots empty voor a random leader. Over the last three games this wildcard-slot was filled with Kongo.

So, to answer your question: I'll be banning Mvemba A Nzinga. Quite a nice guy to have around: but lately I've been seeing too much of him :)

That's a cool idea. I'm going to try it.

I'm mainly interested in banning Civs the AI can't play well, which in my experience are the below:
  • Cleopatra
  • Kupe
  • Jayavarman
  • Tamar (maybe)
I've seen these leaders play poorly multiple times, to the point where their ineptitude is annoying instead of entertaining (especially Kupe).

I don't mind the warmongers so much, I feel like being able to fend them off without going full domination is part of the fun of playing a "builder" strategy.

Eventually Hammurabi might get added to this list if his ability to rush the tech tree gets too annoying. I've only had one game with him as an opponent, so I'm uncertain if the AI can play him competently on average.

Peter for the gp hoarding (may change when they nerf him in April)
Kupe for the idiotic settles
Rough Rider Teddy for going to war (and never making peace) every single game he is in

Brazil - I can’t express how much I hate Pedro and his smug face. Then he brings along music that I distinctly dislike
Kongo
Australia
Canada
Maori - the AI can’t handle Kupe thus resulting in a poor performing Civ wasting a slot

If I want to play a pure random sandbox etc. game of Civ, there is only one leader I would ban, and that is Kupe because him being in the game literally screws the whole thing up. 1) He is a totally ineffective AI player. 2) He will often forward settle you with just terrible cities that he can't defend, and to me it's no fun to basically get a head start because of that. 3) He screws up how the map is distributed among the players, often leaving a huge chunk of unoccupied land for one player, essentially giving them a huge buff.

I'm just looking forward to the novelty of playing against random AI. Up until this point I have always selected my opponents, which was still pretty random anyway. It will be good to just simply toggle off Qin, Pedro and Gorgo and then seeing who the computer selects for me to play against.

Australia for sure. Perfect combination of being annoying to fight, annoying to coexist with, and having the most annoying song in the game.

Might get rid of America and Canada too since they also have annoying music, but at least those are a bit more fun to invade since I'm more familiar with the cities I'm committing war crimes in.

I probably won't use the feature but in the odd chance I do, the main ones will be the Muppet, the Cow, and Gargamel.

Perhaps Gandhi because of his stupid wittering about deterrence. Or Kublai/China becaus it's like having Victoria lead India.

Purely for the music... CANADA!

And I don't mind the national anthem; it's the other song.

I'm playing my first barbarias mode game as Rome on TSL and set the AI leader pool to roughly contemporaneous civs like Gaul, Macedon, Scythia, and Sparta (yeah I know there's a few hundred years between some of these, you can't be too exact with only ~60 civs).

I wish there were some more western tribal type civs. Can we get some Druids or Celts please?

Like Gaul?

I know I said earlier that I won't be permanently banning anyone, but if Sweden shows up again she might be first to sit out a while only because I'm tired of doing Nobel Prizes every 30 turns in late game, and she is the leader that tends to show up the most now.

I said I was using Gaul already, but there's nobody west of them. Not too many close to the east either.

For me:
  • Mapuche - smug-looking guy who benefits from playing badly. It's a troll civ
  • Peter - because of the broken GW farming without any ability to use them
  • Barbarossa - until they fix him destroying/razing every city state in the game. He needs code to capture not kill, and code to restrain him going after his tier 2 ally's suzerained CS.
  • Kupe - because the map doesn't make specific space for him, he settles all over the place, loses the loyalty game, and generally just gets farmed. Good music, bad AI.
There are some with music I don't like to listen to either (Georgia, Canada, Aussies, etc), but I probably would just take my chances with the random generator.

What I mean is Gaul is already the Celts civ in the game. If you want to play a Classical Era Europe game I'm sure they, along with Rome, are going to be it for western Europe.

I think it amazing that people will ban a leader just because they don't like his music. For heaven's sake, just turn the music off. Do you not have any streaming service that delivers exactly the music you want to hear?

Fun fact: The tune for "Waltzing Matilda" was originally used for a recruiting song for the War of the Spanish Succession, with the words "Who'll be a soldier with Marlborough and me?".

Because 90% of the music is great! Hearing Korean, Georgian, Mayan, Mongolian and Zulu industrial themes back to back is just dreamy...

But some music I really dislike and Waltzing Matilda is right up there. And since these games take hours then music really does become a factor!

also, I find Australia to be a generally obnoxious Civ in general with their bonuses and behaviours so that’s a bonus

I'm struggling to think if many to the west of the Gauls that would be included in the game in its present state.

  • Picts would included with the Scots so we won't get those.
  • British Celts maybe, although I daresay that they're blobbed with the Gauls.
  • Iberians, Lusitanians and Tartessians are possible options, but with so many civs around the world and even some more influential (but later) Eurpopean civs not represented in the game, I'm doubtful that they'll get added.
Can anyone think of any civs in the game that are the same people as another Civ from an earlier period (colonial civs not included as while it's the same area, it's different people), I can only think of Gaul (France, for the most part). I'm more ignorant outside of Europe. It seems that Civ VI doesn't like repeating the same people to me, and they'd have to if you want more western classical European tribes.
