I'm just wondering at what speeds do people connect to the internet. Has the broadband revolution really taken place?

I have a 10Mbit connection in my college room! :p

1. This should be in Computer Talk.

2. There is an identical thread in Computer Talk.

;) :D

EDIT: Oh: My broadband company SAYS that its about 9 MBit, but its really about 512 KBit. ;)

Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to have two such threads. This is off-topic isn't it?

No, but a mod will probably move it into Computer Talk, where it is more relavent. I think yours is more specific, anyway (actual speed, not "56K, DSL, etc").

Actually, because this discusses speed and not the type of connection it could qualify as needing a separate thread. The starter of the almost identical thread in the Computer Talk forum only had four options "dial-up" "dsl" "cable" and "other"

I have a 56kb or less, and it is not a "poor you"; to me, it's fine. I have to feel sorry for those who have super-fast connections and can't deal with the - "Oh my god it's so slow!" when they come home (from college) or have to go to a friend's house. I can do both ways.

Although it is quite a shock to have no in-between time while on a cable computer (library)

Having a fast connection really did spoil me. Before, when I had 56K connection, I was happy with it. But when I came to university, and it turned out I have such a connection in my room, it became unbearable using a dial-up connection when I got home for holidays.

512kbit. I'm satisfied. But isn't it right that only companies and educational institutions can have broadband connections in Russia?

I have a fibre-optic cable phone line with 56k analogue modem. Logical, no? I actually get 7.2Kb/s which is a pleasant surprise :)

My new home will have copper phone* line with 56k modem. The performance is much, much worse and connection frequently drops.

* No cable/DSL companies operate in that region!

@Greeny. You wouldn't happen to be on the south-west coast?

Well I think this screen-shot talks for it self

Yeah it's really fast broadband 100 Mbit. How's the :king: ?
