What connection speed do you have?

That test didn't work for me. :(

But I went to my local broadband provider, and found out my cable modem connection at home is faster than my T1 connection at work. . . interesting.

Thats an unusual speed. We dont ever get those in Australia.

But then, the situation for broadband in Australia is pretty dire. The entire infrastructure is owned by one company. They lease the bandwidth to other companies on their terms. So yes, a monopoly on the infrastructure. Which is why so many people over here hate Telstra, as bad as they hate Microsoft, even worse.

EDIT: Oh, forgot, my speed is 256/64kbps. sadly, virtually every plan here has a download limit, in this case 10,000MB. AUD$80, which translates to about USD$50

256/180

I am supposed to have a theoretical 512/512 but they seem to have reduced it a bit since I got it a few years ago (and also raised the price quite a bit).

Test yielded 475/379.

Downstream 700 Kbps (87.5 KB/sec) 756 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 133 Kbps (16.6 KB/sec) 143 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I reach the 90kB/s in most downloads.
:D

Downstream 786 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 376 Kbps (inc. overheads)

ADSL and it costs just a little more than dialup.

Downstream
5086 Kbps (635.8 KB/sec)
5492 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream
727 Kbps (90.9 KB/sec)
785 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Direction | Actual Speed | True Speed (estimated)

Downstream| 41 Kbps (5.1 KB/sec)| 44 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream | 23 Kbps (2.9 KB/sec)| 24 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I have a 56k modem...

I'm in a rural area, so my fastest speed has been and will always be 49 Kbps on a 56K modem

We had that problem too, but they said it was because the telephone wires in our house was too old.

What connection is that? Where is it?

Very impressive...

You should ask your local cable company and see if you can get cable internet access. That is if you want broadband. I have been spoiled. I just went on a vacation and had to use dial-up for a week. Nearly pulled my hair out of my head when I needed to download the user manual for my phone. I forgot how to check messages remotely.

And my speed is 1.5 Mbits. Just like it should be.

We now have ADSL 500 kbps, which is why I wrote that we had the problem, but the ADSL is connected to the first connector in the house so the old wires aren't any problem for the surfing anymore. I agree that you get spoiled with fast internet, it's the same with processor-speed.
