what do i do with the file after i download it?

i downloaded the gotm file and i can't get it to open. i can't even get my civ IV game to recognize it as a save. is it zipped or something? i moved it to the save folder and still nothing. any help?

Can you see a file extension on it (If not, in Windows explorer, look in the tools menu, and select 'folder options'. In the box that appears, click on the 'view' tab, then make sure the option 'hide extensions for known file types' is turned OFF. Click 'apply to all folders')

Does the extension have a .txt on the end? (civ4gotm01bc4000.Civ4SavedGame.txt) If so, then right-click on it and choose 'rename'. Delete the .txt on the end and hit OK.
