What do you do with obselete unique units?

What do you do with your unique units once they become obselete?

I place them in my palace city as an honor guard for the rest of the game.

If I haven't triggered a GA yet and want one, I'll send them to the front to snip off wounded AI units. Upgrades are seriously conditional, it's usually disband for most. I do admit I occasionally keep one or two in the capitol for sheer nostalgia.

When I have enough money, I'll upgrade them. Otherwise I'll send them to the front, where they probably still are useful.

I hardly ever disband anything... Better to plan far enough to avoid having to do so later on...

I upgrade 'em, even if it costs a fair sum of money (hoplites). I never disband any units unless I am VERY strapped for cash.

If they are elite, I send them to the front line. Sure a Jag Warrior will most likely loose to riflemen, but you never know...

If they are not elite I upgrade them if I have the money or send them to the front to fight like any other unit. The exceptions are extra fast UU (Jags, Celtic warriors) and extra defense units (Legions, Samurai). Since they are very nice even when technically obsolete I keep them around a good deal longer.

I upgrade them and fight with them, and if they're not upgradable I disband them in a city that needs the shields.

Like so many, I upgrade all that can be. I'll keep a lone elite cavalry (preferably an elite* one), plus crusaders if I have them, or whatever to "guard" my capital. They make excellent Beefeaters!

Upgrade if possible. If they're fast units, I might use them to explore. I do keep some in the capital for kicks, though. Same thing for Crusaders. I keep them in my cities with wonders. (Once they've built lots of fortresses.)

That's the nice thing about Panzers... They upgrade to MA. And forty bucks is a pretty reasonable rate. The Afrika Korps will ride again!

it is all symbolic. In other words, I just place one unit in my capital because i can.
