what do you think about these fake civilization game like freeciv

I think they are free, so not problem.
However I see many commercial games which were largely inspirated by competition. But if for example Wolfenstein, duna 2 and Alone in the dark would be licenced there would not be many new games.

I have played both FreeCiv and FreeCol, and they are free and (I think) fan made rather than a computer (*COUGH asians COUGH*) cloning everyone else's and each other's game for money.
As well since FreeCiv and FreeCol are both open source and have/can be modded to have features the origional doesn't and never will.

Hmm, I didn't see much point in FreeCiv- I played it it all just seemed the same (I didn't play it for very long, and it was quite a while ago, so I may be wrong)
However I like FreeCol, or, I will once the bugs are ironed out and it gets to the full version... Colonization was a good game just a little dated (how those graphics made my eyes sore...)- since it's largely been abandoned, I'm glad someone is picking it up to improve it, first graphically, then technically
And it's free too- to a cheapskate like me, that's ALWAYS important
