It does since online companies tend to offer slightly lower pries to try and get people to use them and if they can dispatch them earlier then they will so that they can gain the maximum advantage since if someone gets what they want earlier and cheaper then they will use it again.

I don't see how they can charge less and get it to you earlier. I don't think the system works that way...
Well they do. A PS2 game in a normal shop would be around £40, Gameplay will sell them for £30. Also as they dispatch them as soon as they get them there is always a chance that you recieve the game a day early, although with some of the more high profile games it is unlikely.

There usually is $5 or more in shipping though. Although that may still be less, I'd trust my game more through a tangible place, not just a website that's out there somewhere.

Amazon has a free delivery option if you are willing to wait and if you buy several items then the delivery cost may actually drop or it is simply split over more items so it is less significant.

I also don't trust giving out a credit card number. Although I'm sure they can be trusted, it's not as 100% as walking into GameStop and paying $20 ca$h.

Unless you have the picture ID, someone who finds your credit card or the number can just go online and use the number to buy things. If this werent' true, there would undoubtedly be more people buying over the internet. No more going to stores for all your grocery needs, just simply click a button. Unfortunately, it's not always that easy.

Yes I know, but you said all your money. A credit card does not give someone access to all your money.

If it's a credit logo on your debit card like mine it does. Back to the topic, I preorder really popular games which I want to play right when they come out or if the have a cool bonus for the preorder. I do these at game shops in the area such as EB Games, Gamestop hell even Toy Works takes preorders. Most times the game is there the night before and I get a call to come get it early. A few times there has been a problem in shipping and they don't show but never had any issue getting a full refund and going somewhere that has one. I would only preorder a game online that I wasn't interested in playing right when it came out and that included something extra like free shipping and or discounted price or gift card so it would save me a trip to the store and not cost any extra. Also for you non-americans you may get a better online price at www.liksang.com for games, and they do free shipping on all games.

I've only done it once but I don't think I'll ever preorder again. It's just a trick shops use to get your money now rather than later. I've heard the horror stories of those expecting their preorders to arrive on official release day only to have to wait 3-7 days later.

Most of the time you will find the game you want at the store on release day. It may involve a little looking around but you'll find it. I'd rather be in control of whether I get a game on release day or not.

you think 3-7 days is a long wait! I waited 7 WEEKS for fire emblem!
