Well, I already posted a poll for this but I'm making a new one because now there are 16 options so I won't have to group some of the civs together (before you could only have 10 options on the poll).

The question is - what do you think your favorite civ will be when civ3 comes out? I'm voting for the Russians - heavy drinking, wild orgies, and loud drunken singing make for a good strong culture in my opinion.

Still Germany & China for both are militaristic and germany has scientific while china has industrious. And since I find scientific better than industrious (as staded in the civ ability tread) I go for germany :goodjob:

I find the Romans appealing to my taste. First of all I do like the ancient Civ's, and among them the Romans would represent most of all my interests. Possibly the Greeks, but I voted for Romans and I'll stick with it. After all, they are the Civilization that "gave" us the Byzantine Empire eventually... :goodjob:

I'm really looking forward to play the Persians. The are both scientific and industrious. I'll become the most Advanced empire. Then I'll produce a huge army and Crush my enemies. :satan:

I think i'll go for the French (commercial and industrious) because production and commerce are never enough:

+production=+units/improvements/wonders=+power

+commerce=+money/science=+power

Note: The Persians (scientific and industrous) are other civ that i could give a shot, but i think commerce is more important than science, because commerce gives you both science and money.

Welcome! We are in the same wavelenght... As far as you don't get the Romans before me lol:rolleyes:

It's all about the French you guys. Commercial and Industrious, and their start place on the world map is in the middle of all the action.

I agree with your choise of civ. But you forget to put units infront of the commerce colum too. You now pay your upkeep of troops with money insted of shields, remeber...;)

Yes, you're right!!

I was forgetting that advantage too, because without commerce the big production regarding units will be useless, because you can't support them!!

Thanks for reminding me!! ;)

The French as commercial and industrious is absolutely ridiculous.

If we look at the sweep of French history, the most glorious moments have always been under some sort of despot, e.g. Louis the XIV and Napoleon. These rulers by no means governed over societies that were commercial and industrious, they were militaristic and expansionist. If we look at modern France, they are a far cry from an industrious and commercial nation. At least a quarter (25%) if not more of the population is employed by the government. Hell the workers even have protests to reduce their 37 hour work weeks to 35! I don't know about you, but I don't drive a Renault or Puegeot (sp?). I'm not particularly impressed by French engineering. About the only French things I buy are wine and cheese. Its the Americans who were robbed here. They should have been commercial and industrious. What do you think? Also, I think that the Germans should have had the industrious characteristic. I think Firaxis needed to assign the commercial-industrious combo to some civ and they didn't put any thought into the eventual choice.

As to which civs to play, it depends on your strategy. I'm not a military person in civ and I always play a stategy which focuses on intense science development (i.e. aiming for the Automobile without cheating on emperor in the original civ before AD). My choices will therefore heavily revolve around benefits to science and commerce. Commrcial is more important than scientific to me. Science is derived from commerce, therefore having more commerce will increase science production. As it stands the scientific ability does not actually increase the rate of science production. It only reduces the cost of "science" improvements and grants a free tech for each new age. With this in mind my top three choices are:

1. Greeks

1. English (not a mistake, a tie with Greeks)

3. Babylonians

Greeks are scientific and commercial: no explanation.

English are commercial and expansionist. The ability to explore early cannot be underestimated for the optimal placement of cities and location of opponents. Additionally, the benefit of more positive barbarian huts could prove very useful. Have to wait and see on how beneficial expansionist will prove.

Babylonians are scientific and religious. I'm intrigued by the new culture system developed in civ3. As i'm not a militarist, being able to influence other civs simply by developing poweful cities is very appealing. Given that scientific and religious buildings are key to the accumulation of culture, no other civ seems better poised to take advantage of this new feature.

What are your top 3 choices for civs?

Well I think everyone on this forum disagrees with at least one civ's 'abilities', but that's what we wil lhave the editor for, right? ;)

At the moment, I'm confident I'll play the game with each civ, but the order will propably be:

1. Germans (free techs & kick-ass units sound good to me, and I just adore German panzers :D )
2. Persians (scientific & industrious would be my ultimate ticket, this sounds like the klackons in MOO)
3. Chinese (because I like pandas :o )

And after that, whatever I happen to click :)

I think many of you are missing the point of this poll/thread. It is not "Which Civ Will be The Best in Civ 3" it is "What do you think your favorite civ will be in civ3?" I am the only one who picked Aztec. I picked them because I like there history and I think the special unit they have sucks (only good for early expansion on plains). This means that I will not be able to use the special unit to get a leap on the game. This sounds fun to me and therefore makes them my favortie Civ at the moment.

Why, the Zulus, of course. You all may think they suk, but I play them quite well. I'm not saying that they are the best civ; I'm saying that they are my favorite. I imagine the way Firaxis set it up, it'll be a mighty challenge to play them, but hey, I'm a challenged, and challenging person, so I'm quite well up to it.

Hammurabi and the Babylonians.

Who else has a New York Dolls song written about them? :D

"...rockin' with the King of Babylon!"

Actually, as I like research and culture, their special attributes fit right into my (anticipated) way of playing.

Industrious: adjective: Characterized by steady attention and effort

Industrious is a bad characteristic. All of these nations were industrious in their own way. The chinese were industrious TO THE END of defence (great wall), The americans are industrious TO THE END of commerce (global market dominance), The babylonians were industrious TO THE END of religion (building of religious structures and temples). Saying one nation is more industrious then another is ridiculus, their industriousness was merely focused towards different ends.
