What do you want in Civ V?

Can I have something like the Panama Canal?? Say you have to pieces of land very close together- only seperated by 1 hex or less, then you could control the naval traffic through it in exchange for a sum of money each turn from the other civs that uses it :)

Fine. But, certainly you understand that modders would need to understand how the game interprets data files in order to make their mods work, right? What file format do you recommend that will ease both the development of mods and end user integration of mods to suite your needs?

You're assuming that my idea and XML are incompatible, and assuming that I understand why you assume such. However, I do not understand. So could you please explain?

A battle system built on tactics like flanking, envelopment and with factors like morale and supply having important effects. Historical military doctrines researchable. Historical military commanders for each civ that have traits and can gain XP.

Also, quantifiable resources with different units having a certain upkeep in food, hammers and resources.

Ability to transfer food and hammer between cities (researchable).

There was one in Civ4. Build a fort through a land which surrounded by the sea on both sides. But of course there is no payment due to open borders strategy.

Alien invasion random event. HG Well's original War of the Worlds would work, but I'd prefer something with a little more Will Smith like Independence Day.

I would like to see Hubble Space Telescope/ISS to be wonder.
I also want rear attack/flanking attacks.
I want more victory conditions.
I also like the plagues, downfall and rise of city states
I would like to see a civilization creator, so I can create my own
I want more civ available in an expansion pack.
And more.....

I always wanted a Modern Carrier, to replace the Carrier in modern age... Modern Carrier can have +1 speed and +1 transport space more than normal Carrier.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sorry about the whole CSA thing. They DID, in a backwards way, help end slavery in the U.S., but I digress.

Multiple fortification structures and civ creator..... AWESOME:goodjob:

If you liked the Maya video, there is a whole series on them (ones on Greece, Persia, England, Russia, France, China, the Rennaisance, and more are the same length, and Rome and Egypt are much longer)

What about some more.... complete scenarios? Like have set dates (4000 B.C., 1 A.D., 600 A.D., 1450 A.D., and 1700 A.D.) and areas (Europe, The Near East, and North Africa; Sub-saharan Africa; The Far East; and The Americas) This way there are lots of times and area to play, plus just the main game)

Welcome to CFC. I see you have a great interest in history as a love for Civ as I do. I look forward to discussing things in the future. :)

Thanks Thormodr:) I see you know a lot about Civ and history. Having a spine and standing up for what you know is great. Don't sweat it. Anyway, A sort of civ-creator would be nice. Like where you choose a pic on your computer for the LH, name him/her, give them traits, a UU and UB, starting techs, give the cities names, and so on. Like on Civ IV with XML, but without the modding.:D

1. A "quick start" that skips all the splash screens, intros, and takes me directly to the "choose game" screen (play game/options/exit game/etc).
2. A "quick game" button that puts in entirely random options for everything but difficulty level, then throws me into a game.
3. A "quick PBE" version of the game that opens up a dumbed down, graphics unintensive version of civ that allows me to take my play by email turn without booting up the entire game.
4. An "advanced player" interface, which does what #1 does as well as puts the game creation information all on a single screen. Custom games, regular games, multiplayer, some options, etc could all fit on a single screen if designed correctly.

The thing I've always despised about Civ4 is how long it actually took to get into a game using the default game install. Using the icon to enter a game, I'd have to wait for the game to load, then click through all the intro screens (no flavor on the intro screens either), click play game, go through all the options, and finally get in. Most of that could be done away with.

A more generic system for alliances of all sorts.

I want a general way to organize groups of civs that would encompass the following disparate features from civ IV:
- vassals
- the UN / Apostolic Palace
- defensive pacts

basically, you'd be able to form an alliance, name it, have an absolute leader or vote, force someone in, make certain civics (or 'social policies') mandatory for all members, have all kinds of alliance-wide policies like trade embargos or free trade, etc. Each of these features could be unlocked with certain technologies even.

The important part is that it would all be with one encompassing customizable system, instead of discreet representations of real-world groups.

More units, they should impliment the unit building from Alpha C.

If there is going to be alot less units ,caps , 1upt etc then unit creation is even more important because you will have that unit for centuries.

From the British Army point of view think about seperate infantry Regiments, Kings Own, Royal Green Jackets, etc, all won honours or their name over 200 years ago.

Byzantines and Rome are the same states, just focused on different periods. I don't mind them being in the game, but they aren't a priority.

But as for what I want, I want the developers to reconsider the boardgame-esque one unit per square plan. I am certain in my pessimism that it'll ruin Civ5.

Hah, I think that's a bit far stretched. But I guess I see, what youre trying to state.

I want more worker actions. I absolutely love using my workers. Finding ressources, hooking them up, building cottages etc. I would like to see some more of that.
Also specialising my units through experience is a great feature. Maybe extend that as well.
And narcotics! Give me opium for the people.

I want an evolution of the franchise. I.. may... be getting a reinvention.

The Large Hadron Collider should certainly be in the game as a Wonder - it's the largest and most expensive machine ever built by man. The downside is that it would likely be available too late in the game to have any notably impact.

I would like to see more customization between the different civs. Example: An English forge might not yield the exact same output as a German forge. It might yield better when producing ships, while the German forge yield better when producing land units etc...

I want the unit customization feature like SMAC. Alas, doesn't look like it will in either this time. :(
