What features did NOT make it into CIV VI?

I joined the forums back in 2010, around the launch of CIV V, and in the few years after, posted a ton of ideas and suggestions, just like most of my fellow CIV FANATICS.

Did you come up with some features/ideas/changes for CIV V or a potential CIV VI that didn't make it, but you still think it would be cool if they could be implemented in a future expansion pack (or even CIV VII)?

1. CHOICE OF 2 LEADERS AT EACH ERA: This idea is similar to the game AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. Basically, when you enter each era, you could choose between two different historical leaders, and each leader would offer a UA and a UU. That way, you could customize the leader you wanted for each era. It would also represent the obvious fact that a civilization has had hundreds of rulers throughout its history. However, I do think this idea is represented through the new government card system.

2. UNITS INTERACTING WITH TILES: I usually lose interest in a CIV V game around the Industrial age, because the battle system stays the same. There is no such thing as trench warfare, and I'd love to see infantry being able to 'dig in' to their tiles (alongside a graphic that shows them inside a trench). It seems like for CIV VI, we'll only see forts as the default non-terrain tile buff for units, but I wish army units could do more.

3. BIGGER BORDERS: I really hate in CIV V (and supposedly in CIV VI) how little the borders are, and how by the end of the game, there may still be large swathes that are uncovered. I have always thought there should be a main border (what we have) and a 'claim' border. Basically, you can claim a certain patch of land, but you cant develop it, until you build a city around it. Maybe it costs culture to 'claim', but it guarantees that allies and neutral civs wont build cities inside it?

What do you think?? What are your suggestions for features that didn't make it into CIV VI?

1. CHOICE OF 2 LEADERS AT EACH ERA:

How would this work for civs that don't have leaders for each era? The modern civs in the game were not around in 3000 BC so there are no leaders to pick from. What leader would you give say America in the classical age or the Renaissance age? Right now, the game gets around this by just giving each civ one iconic leader that represents the essence of the civ. It is not historical that Washington or Roosevelt led America in the Classical Age but it is necessary for gameplay. But having to pick from anachronistic leaders each era would feel weird.

It wouldn't be CIV-specific, but specific to global leaders during that epoch. For instance, if you're playing as America, and reach the Classical era before any other CIV, you would have first dibs at choosing which leader you wanted during this era (i.e., Leonidas, Plato, Wu Zeitan, Hammurabi, Boudicca, etc.). So, you could have Socrates leading America in the classical age, and even Richard the Lionhearted leading America in the medieval age, and each leader offers different perks.

It would work sort of like religion, as in if you get a religion first, you choose what you want before any other CIV. It basically promotes a quicker progression from era to era.

I also dont think it's immersion-breaking. What's totally immersion-breaking for me is seeing Teddy Roosevelt in a suit in the Classical age, alongside Trajan or Cleopatra.

Having one leader per game makes it too simplified IMHO.

Tought of it also as a difficulty, but thinking about it, there is also an easy solution: give each civ leaders based on its cultural heritage, even if from other civs. Also, for defunct civs, use cultural heir leaders.

So, for England, in exmple, you would be able to chose between Boudicca or a Roman emperor in the classical age. Sharing leaders, I'd open the pool to more than teo choices, altough that might end in a hell to balance.

Mix america with latin america

And you would have ancient civs that no longer exist in todays time (or even earlier eras) which also wont be having leaders to choose from
