Dunno really, as it hasnt even come close to happening for me as my vassals are usually beat up pretty badly by the time they cap, but Id guess it would just be a regular old space race loss.

Interesting question though.

I'd be very suprised if a vassal could even be capable of winning by space race. I've never seen a vassal that isn't a good way behind in the tech race. I just dont think they'd be capable of constructing a spaceship before someone else managed to get a victory.

can a vasal of yourself of anyone else win with a diplomatic victory

I've seen Mansa Musa as a vassal keep up in the space race. God I hate that guy.

It would depend on whether they build the UN. If they did and you were eligible they would have to vote for you, but the other AI could still vote for him...

My vassal will never win a space race. I only get them to offer capitualtion when they are down to 2-3 cities. Then I sell them every spare resource I have for usually more than 100 gpt. So they are incapable of discovering new techs.
