What happens when you have used up your city names? IIRC Civ 4 took the cities and added new(creating New Washington, New London), but is that still in Civ 5?

Good question, and on a side note, what is the maximum city names one civilisation has? Is the same for everyone ?

You could also get New New York, and of course a british New York that way.

I don't know honestly. The city lists are pretty long generally. I remember doing a Maya ICS game and I didn't quite get to the end of the list despite colonizing (through razing and resettling) an entire continent (on standard size, which hosted 4 other civilizations).

When a civilization runs out of names, the name goes back to Washington if you were America, for example.

If you run out of names one is chosen at random from other civs in the game, if those are all gone, one is chosen at random from any other civ ... it's how the Huns UA works (they only have one city name specified). You'll only see you own names recycled if you've had a city razed.

New Carthago Nova

Is New Orleans on the American city list ? Because if so, you also have New New Orleans, and the French New Orleans.

Errr no. as it was stated, the game starts to borrow other city name lists. That's how "unique" the Huns UA is.. it literally posesses a single city on it's list and borrows cities from other civs in game (usually random order).

So no, no New Orleans or as such, and the civs have varying amount of cities.

Stop ruining my fun

Seriously though, this never happens right ? I guess in G&K on huge maybe ? You'd need to be ICSing pretty seriously to get there.

I remember going for the Celt achievement, Longest city name or whatever it's called, and just getting that was a tad ridiculous. I don't think even the most extreme ICS strats will run out of city names unless that's the intent.

Yes, it's very unlikely that that happens, and is probably why the devs chose the easy way.

However it's much better than what Civ 3 had, in Civ 3, although if you run out of your first city it would simply add "New" (i.e New London).. if you run out of your cities TWICE it would literally be London 2. -.-

So things have changed. Civilization 1 used to repeat the same names. So the names get borrowed like the Hun ua, right?

If i remember correctly, Japan have a easter egg named Neo Tokyo when you run out of city names to use for japan xD I gotten it two times back in civ 3.

and one of the civs would give "Not Constantinople"

In an ICS game I did as Spain I ran out of city names and the new cities just didn't have names.
I have a thread showing that game, and maybe one of the pictures shows it?

In World Builder, at least, the new cities are just called "City"

it is never a problem for me. If the map is big and contains too many cities, my PC freezes.so I always choose a medium one
