If this was one of the many effects of a larger system, sure. Otherwise I would feel frustrated when they signed cease fires when it made no sense.

Too much MM and my biggest exploit.

A bit overpowered, but they certainly would be better than Civ 3's POS espionage system.

Can we say overpowered?

They were a bit overpowered as well. Being able to turn any site into a super-city site was unbalancing.

What Civ2 have you been playing?

Better yet, be able to trade them like you can trade workers now.

I think it would be in test of times, seen them once (played once), but not so interresting to me

Man, I sure miss being able to trade units, too. THere was nothing better that giving tanks to some iron-age civilization and pointing them to your nearest neighbor. Now THAT's how you win a cold war.....

How about the Advisors?

They were fairly amusing. I thought it was a step back to remove them, if only b/c they showcased some cool technology.

The statue of liberty is not a wonder- if it is then you would have to be able to trade wonders cause it came from France to the US. I think that landing on the moon should be a wonder.

It is a US-designed game, expect American wonders and civs.

Otherwise they will alienate 60-70% of the game's market.

.

I miss some of those features. Except the camel trade that was soo unbelievably frustrating I ended up playing all my games on cheat mode for the sole purpose of "creating" camels outside far away cities and just setting the camels home towns and establishing trade routes rather than actually building the slack beasts.
Current trade system is fine as is and frankly was one of the best improvements i could think of.

Where I feel civ3 took a BIG backward step that I personally hate is the inability to pay other civs to declare war on other civs like you could in civ2.
I used that feature in civ2 to make the world as i wanted it over time. I found it to be an excellent tool that required some planning to use effectively.

I only switched to Civ3 about a year ago and played Civ2 until then. Recently, the consensus in the Civ2 community has been that Demo is more powerful than Fundy, even for warmongers (see any thread on 'Power Democracy')
I do miss the balance of gov't types... for example, Democracy, being more advanced than Republic, was clearly superior. I miss having a govt worth researching after the AA :(
That, and the fact that the types were balanced and varied (some were easier to manage, others harder but more powerful) is the biggest thing I miss. Wonder movies were cool but not vital for gameplay... wonders in general were so much more powerful and easier to get vs. Civ3 that they gave you an unfair advantage over the AI.
But seriously, rework the gov't types in Civ4.

Having c2:ToT and later to play c3c for a while now, the only thing I miss is the continuance of your civ out into orbit, to mars and into space. Near as I can figure, it is not so much layers of game play, as it is tech triggers to what your civ can do next.
Always thought that after ToT, that c3 would give a player the option of orbital warfare, or surface bombardment from space, or even inner space conflict. A little disappointed when I started playing c3c, but after playing it for a while and then going back to c2, I was spoiled by the lack of quality.
With ToT:extended original, you had the option of playing an alien race on an alien world at the same time having earth-based civs developing at the same time, though I did wish they would have allowed if you wanted to play an alien the wonders that were in ToT:sci-fi.
Earth-based civs in haste to get to alpha centauri, where as if you were playing an alien, you were in haste to get to earth.
The ultimate war, would be the player as the alien vs the AI civs of earth in an orbital war.
It would have been fun to see c3c go this route, I do hope, though highly unlikely, c4 goes this route.
