What if Civ3 would be a real-time startegy game instaed of turn based?
I know all of the civ games before are successful AND turn based but maybe turn-Based is not the reason for their success.
Maybe making the next civ game real-time can enter a totally new dimension to the game...
Everyone says civ2 and all the other civs are the best startegy games ever, well not everyone but a lot of people, and they say games like age of empires which are real-time are not as good. but is it because age of empires is not turn based or just because its not as good as civilization 1,2,3?
I think firaxis should try and make a feature to make the game real-time (I know its impossible in this version... maybe in civ4)...
Maybe the 'legacy' of the turn based civ games should change and see what happens, please post your comments on this idea.

Nope won't be a hit for me.
One of the things I really like with civilization is the time. The time in which you can plan, think, and so on... A real time game, doesn't give you this peace. Even if you could pause the game to think, it wouldn't be the same.
The very balanced turn move is the best way. It's actually hard to give good examples other than that therealtime will be to hectic, but when u play civilization, it just feels so right with turn-based move. The human mind wouldn't be able to get an enjoyment out of civ, if it was real time. Because there would be way to many things to handle at one time. It can't comprehend more than a few tasks at once, if it even can comprehend more than one...I can't...

Imagine running 100+ cities, late-game, in real time....

:suicide:

Nah don't think so....

My mouse doesn't work that well, my brain doesn't process that fast, and I was never much at hand-eye coordination....

Besides, we are talking about "time" spanning YEARS--surely that means there should be time to scan everything, sit back and THINK before we act, right?

Isn't that what Age of Empires and all that dog-naff is about?

Civilization *is* turn based strategy.

If you an element of turn based and real time you could play Shogun total war as it mixes the two very well IM0. The battles are in real time and then the management is turn based. Maybe it would work for Civ but I think it would make the game just too complex. Having to switch through views and progress would be slow. They would definately need to include a button to resolve battles automatically like in Shogun.

I kinda like the idea of real time battles and turn based strategic movement and management, like in north&south (if anyone remember the old infograme-game) .. You get more control on the battlefield..

... But it wouldnt work in CIV where there are several (and then some) battles per turn..

Plus I have to agree that turn based strategy is one of the things that DEFINE civilization!

As in it is unplayable with keeping all the elements we love about Civilization.
I say definitly no, and personally I like turnbased more than real-time.

i cant

What's the difference between a real-time civ and empire earth (except for the graphics)? Also, civ = turn based. Turn based wouldn't be same without civ, and civ won't be the same without the turns.

Let the beginners play their RTS tomfoolery...

LET THE WORLD KNOW>>>
We CIV fanatics play it OLD SCHOOL!

We are the PEOPLE! The MASTERS!

Throwing endless tanks at the enemy in real-time is a lesson in mass production, not strategy.

TBS and CIV III rules! :king:
