what is hotseat?

i know this is a dumb question but im more or les new to online gaming for civilization.

Ok ok. It's a multiplayer mode where several players play on the same computer.

It is a way to play the game with only computer. The person on the seat makes their move, then it goes down the line. Guess they call it hotseat, since it sees a lot of action
