What is missing in my attempts to advance my aircraft beyond WW2 era

Hi all, I did a search and it seems our CIV7 game should be able to advance beyond WW2 era aircraft and tech. I can't seem to figure out how to do so despite looking through the threads. Am I missing something obvious? How does one keep advancing beyond the point I'm stuck at. I presume I am not gathering the right materials, or taking the right steps. TIA.

No it doesn't, the last techs in civ7 are Nuclear Fission and Rocketry.. units are all WWII era or earlier
