what is the best way to display civ3?

I just got a new computer and with it a new wide screen monitor (22"). I am playing civ3 but the resolution is not very good. My monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050 and civ3 is at 1024x768. Can I increase civ3's native resolution? Or what is the best way to display the game?

First you have to make sure that the resolution set through your OS is 1680x1050. Then, go into the folder where Civ3 is installed, and open the .ini file that belongs to the game, so for Civ3 it would be Civilization3.ini, for PTW it would be in the Civ3PTW folder named ptw.ini, and for Conquests it would be in the Conquests folder named conquests.ini. When you have the file opened, add this line and save the .ini file --> KeepRes=1

This will make Civ3 use the resolution that is set through your OS. The opening menu, city view, and the advisors screens will still be at 1024x768 size, but the global map will be full screen, in good quality without distortion.
