What is the easiest way to win?

I think that taking out a near by civ or 2 and going for a space race is the easist. After all, once you have built 2 cores then the tech rate is 1tech / 4 turn and all you have to do is sell off a tech every 10 turns or so.

Discounting Diplo, I think Spaceship is the simplest on a normal map with plenty of civs. On a Pangaea, conquest is easier.

To pull of domination, you need to keep all those corrupt cities, which pin down troops that could be thrown to the front if you were simply burning everything in your path to a conquest win.

I'm probably playing at less than the optimum strategery, and perhaps this won't work on Diety, but I find conquest a royal pain in the ... since I have to keep dealing with the barbs that show up in the "shaded" areas. Also burns me up when a civ I'm not at war with builds a new city in territory I previously "burned". I usually keep zero troops in cities not on my border, and place troops in border cities or cities near the front. I admit domination does waste a few troops. Usually I pull into the tech lead about when I get cavalry and after that's it's pretty much war with a few rest stops along they way. I try to keep 1000 gold on hand & with Wall street I can rush cheap culture about every 2 to 3 turns to fill in the borders where needed.

Perhaps I sould dedicate myself to conquest & learn the tricks of the trade. Don't think I'll ever go for Spaceship or culture as I'd get too bored. If I start playing the GOTM I'll have to do this if certain conditions are required (like spaceship only).

BTW - I *NEVER* go for the UN victory, but I do keep all conditions turned on. That way I'm forced to build the UN just so there is never a vote if the game lasts that long. Usually it's over before that on a small map. Keeping all conditions turned on increases the degree of difficuly in the game, which for me makes it more enjoyable.

2nd BTW - I usually play pangea (small map) or continents (regular map) because the big maps take soooooooooooooooo long to finish. I really like the Huge maps, but they take (no kdding) like 80+ hours for me to finish. :cringe:

Definetly spaceship. I play Monarch-Emperor and with the exception of one game I've never even had an opponent start thier ship by the time I've launched.

As a builder who generally plays on huge maps Domination would probably be the hardest, not in difficulty, but in surviving the massive ammount of tedium that would entail.

   There is some truth to that! I remember a huge map game that I was glad finally ended. The last few centuries were me (on one continent) against the other 8 civs on the other continent. One by one they fell, but it seemed like each turn would take like 15 mins to micromanage the workers & strategically use bombers, artillary MA. I won by domination before I finished the spaceship, but it did get to be a grind toward the end.

I suppose you would find my way of winning cheap, but it works. Start of by going straight for Map Making. Once you get there, immediately build the great lighthouse. Then, find out where he is, and box him in (if on the same island, build cities around him, if not then build a fleet of galleys and block him so his galleys can't go to other islands. Then, having free range on the ocean, never stop producing settlers in your capital, and proceed to take over and colonize the rest of the world. The last game I played, I ate his 12 cities with cavalry, while he defended with pikemen.

Besides histograph and Diplomacy because I think diplomacy is cheap. otherwise khofi annan (sp?) would rule the world. So besides these two what is the easiest to win.

Easiest to win ?
First set the level on CHIEFTAIN
Then set map on Pangaea
Go ahead and kill them all. According to the time it takes for you to kill them, you may even win by 100K:crazyeye:
