Lets face it, this game is extremely hard - what is the highest level anyone has managed to beat this game on?

Monarch. I´ve never tried emperor, but I´m going to soon.

Warlord, but I feel a Regent victory will soon be within my grasp.

over

I have beaten the game several times on emperor, and win almost every time on monarch, so I do assume people beat the game on deity. The only thing that is probably still not accomplished is beating the game on deity with a huge map.

Oh. You might try to be polite.

I have won on regent and I assume there will be no major problem to win on Monarch=)

Switching to monarch is a pretty big change. You go from a level playing field, to one that is stacked against you. Also, the AI is far more agressive, and you will find it very hard to keep up in science during certain stages of the game.

I have won on Regent. I think the game gets so much better with each level increase. Seems to me, though, that anything higher than Regent (level field) requires a militaristic approach, so that is the aspect of the game I am working on improving currently to prepare for Monarch.

The general belief is that this game is hard enough to beat on Monarch, let alone Emporer, so could those people who have won on Deity please supply us meer mortals with some details like the Civ they used, the size of the map, and the number of opponents?

Also, when and where are they publishing their tips? :)

Some people said they rushed and conquered deity. Well, all I do is negate deity bonus: I rush and wage wars all the time, but I don't kill the civs. It doesn't matter how much bonus they get, once they're reduced to some small cities, they never catch up.
Of course, a militaristic civ is advised. Producing more units isn't as good as having elites everywhere, at least facing an AI. Beside awesome in battle, elites give leaders all the time. Why build wonders when you can rush?
Don't know if deity makes the AI very agressive, but I had the Russians blackmailing me even with my 60 ICBMs. Don't know why would they need saltpeter if they had armor.
They had no SDI, muahahaha.

Emporer but it was a fluke, I was on the largest island on a huge map all alone w/ at least 2 of every luxery. The AI were on tiny islands only big enough for 5 cities, I love you archplagio!

Regent. I'm going to monarch now.
The problem with those high level victories is the configurations.
It's quite hard to master a level in all kinds of size and starting locations. On the other hand, playing the hardest level against few civilizations and always in small maps doesn't seem like a real challenge.

Yup, it has a lot to do with barbarians, and map configuration.
I set the map to 3 billion years, and screwed it by setting arid/wet/warm/cold. With so many mountains around, it was terribly hard to rush or use horsemen against deity.
Not surprisingly, I lost every time  .

Got to Monarch, played on a medium map. Easy easy easy. Now, I'm playing monarch on a huge map. And I'm struggling just to stay alive, much less on top.
