I play a long game. I like to tech up, gain a decisive advantage, then crush my enemies, see them driven before me, hear the lamentations of their women. Of course, it's hard to hear those lamentations from the turret of my tank or the cockpit of my fighter, but I can imagine the screams. Normally, though, I have to smash an opponent or two early on. My current game (large map marathon) started me on a medium small isolated continent, room for 6 cities, and no contact until Astronomy. It's my first game on Prince, so when I did make contact and found that I was top score with a nice tech advantage, I won friends and influenced people, acquiescing to all demands (except Napoleon, what a jerk) and at one point had everyone pleased and friendly (except Napoleon and he was cautious with a +1.)

So here I am, in the year 1556, never having fought a war, just popped my first general thanks to privateers, and wondering how much longer I can put off a war. I have defensive pacts with three other civs, no big conflicts with anyone. Is there some record I should be shooting for? Go the whole game without a war (without, of course, having "always peace" as a condition.) I wouldn't care much for that, I really enjoy a good blitzkrieg.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Depends on who you attack, really. If you're facing a Napoleon who, somehow, manages to bulb/trade his way into libbing Rifles you'll need to pull off a mounted rush really early. If your target is Gandhi, well, might want to attack him before he builds UN if that's not something you want to deal with in your game, but other than that you can probably roll him over at tech parity pretty easily.

I occasionally have games where due to geography or diplomacy (and religion) there is not a single war on my continent unless I instigate it. I would say usually I am involved in at least 1 war by the Middle Ages, and sometimes a classical era war which usually turnout to be little more than skirmishes with no result other than exchanging some troops. I also prefer to build a nice capable nation and then later in the game mount some impressive campaigns. I simply have more “fun” fighting late game wars with tanks planes paratroopers missiles etc than I do by making a handful of axes and conquering a level 4 city.

Well. I got my answer.

In 1692, my Friendly neighbor. Somebody or Other II, with whom I had a Defense Pact, decide to attack my capital. Imagine his surprise when my archers became infantry and my caravels became destroyers. He did not have a good day.
