I probably bore the pants off you guys with my dumbass questions and reflections - sorry if that's so. Having said that I would be genuinely interested to know what other people are doing in their own current game (i.e. single/multi, diff level, chosen civ, number of other civs, victory plan etc.), so if it's not too much trouble would you give me an insight?

Thanks!

Rome vs Celts, Germanic tribes, Etruscan, Macedon, Greece, Carthage, Egypt, and Parthia on Large Europe TSL

Singleplayer, emperor, standard speed, with random terrain and opponents.

I drew arabia, and found myself on a continent with Greece and Austria. My starting position was just so-so, and I was boxed in fairly well by four city states. I teched to camel archers asap and attacked a city state next to me (who was under the protection of Greece) in order to get some more space. Not long after taking that city, Greece declared war on me. I proceeded to wipe him out and take his side of the continent. At this point I was sitting at -26 happiness so I took roughly 30-40 turns to get my happiness back to 0. After that, I took roughly another 60 turns to catch up on infrastructure in all my new cities as well as the old. I finished the liberty tree first, and then honor. I just began going down the rationalism tree to help keep up in tech and hopefully take a lead eventually.

I'm currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place based on score now, and gearing up to take over the rest of my continent with rifleman and artillery. I already took one city state that was friends with Austria to try and goad them into declaring war on me. My ultimate plan is to conquer the whole continent except for a few city states I'd as allies, and then race for space.

Arabia's bazaar has proved very useful, and I am swimming in money from luxury trades with the other civs. Camel archers are very very powerful; I was able to just destroy Greece's army when we fought with very few casualties.

So far, a really fun game (as usual). :)

G&K, emperor, carthage, tiny islands..standard speed- my fourth game overall

So far, its going well, have a tech lead apparently, and have played a bit more thoughtfully than my king games where i randomly picked techs and still won.

On this game im coming to the conclusion that maritime states + gold are (for G&K) the 2 overwhelming factors to success.

I only have 3 cities at present, but one is extremely strong, and i was lucky enough to find 2 natural wonders to settle by which is nice.

The AI has been incredibly unagressive considering my 'army' is 2 composite bows and 3 quinemer.... 3 boats :)

First time playing Washington, also on Mesopotamia for the first time, first Deity game in BNW.

I think the map is too big for 8 players. I spawned in the corner next to desert so there wasn't much room to expand, I've got flat useless desert to the south, ocean to the north and Gandhi to the east. Room for 4 decent cities but no more.

Unfortunately for me the Iroquois are in this game and they have more or less unlimited space on the other side of the world... I think the ship has sailed for me, he's totally out of control, and it takes me 25 turns just to have my troops reach him. Monty, Pachuati and Dido have joined me in attacking him but it doesn't matter, his empire is too mighty. My only hope is a B17 timing but at the rate things seem to be going, Hiawatha will have jet fighters by the time I build B17s and get them anywhere near him.

Single, Emperor, Portugal, Standard, Earth, Diplo. Started out in Egypt, Desert Folklore was the obvious choice. Even though the AI could spread their religions more, I'm realizing how powerful Interfaith Dialogue is. Tech lead in Medieval and I'm not slowing down any. Decided to push growth harder since I want sub-300 victories. This was helped by Antananarivo having tons of luxuries and easy quests. Regretting opening Piety since AIs stole the Reformation Beliefs I wanted. They stole Petra too. Guess I should aim for getting it by Turn 100.

Currently have 4 cities in Africa, 1 in South Africa and 3 in North Africa. Friends with all CS in the Old World, and now I will produce my first Nau to explore the New World. Future Naus will have Workers following for Feitorias. I wonder if I will get to be host of the World Congress. The plan now is to blaze through for Ideology to get the CS alliance party started with Freedom.

One note though: where's the lovey-dovey early game DoF-fest people were saying was the standard in BNW? So far everyone doesn't trust each other, nobody has signed any DoFs and my attempts to do so were constantly rebuffed.

Is he actually going for any particular win though? My last game Bismarck had 3x boosters, engine and the stasis chamber - in other words, all he lacked was the simplest tech of all, the cockpit. He dawdled long enough for me to sneak a SV of my own - in 1906(!), so he really wasn't messing around. It ain't over till the fat lady sings!

I'm playing BNW, World Map Mod with 42 Civilizations right now. King difficulty and epic speed. Every Civilization has it's real life starting position with the (more or less) accurate resources.

I chose to play as Brasil, because the starting point (and their color :D) is awesome. So basically I just have to deal with the Incas to have South America for myself. Unfortunately a Mayan settler passed my Scout in Middle America and founded a city right next to São Paulo. So my next tasks are gonna be conquering their little city on MY land, taking out the Incas to secure South America and finally wipe out the Mayans to cut off North and Middle America from the south.

Economically it's going pretty good. Found a natural wonder which provides me with 10 gold per turn, a great merchant tile improvement and some trading with the Shoshone. City connections are almost done, even the one to the (soon) former Mayan city. :D

It's domination victory only, because I just wanted to relax and don't rush to anything specific like science or culture. I enjoy building my empire without worrying about the Apollo program or World Congress votes too much.

So that's what I've started today, it's a whole lot of fun so far.

well ive gone on the offensive, trouble is its tiny islands!, and my fleet of privateers and frigates get into a traffic jam as they cant move after attacking..how do people avoid that?

its ok i was just getting fustrated last night ;)

Basically every enemy city is on a little island, with limited room to bring my naval firepower to bear

I agree that 1upt is better, but it makes it very messy trying to get ships in and out to do their attack.

Once you get 'range 3' ships its easy, but the game was all but over by then..

Rome. Small World Map.

I started in SE Asia. I've settled/conquered all of east asia, Indian subcontinent, extreme western Europe, western Australia, and moving toward the middle east.

Ironically I'm actually playing the new XCOM game that was just released. Could use some of those new units from BNW though cause I'm getting destroyed by them aliens.

Last Civ game was Spain Continents Emperor. Spawn next to King Solomon's mines got Great Library and every other wonder. Was so far ahead on tech and well everything else I just quit.

Right now I'm in the midst of a 6 player Multiplayer game we began with an industrial start a few nights ago on a Small Earth map with no city states. Playing as Germany my capital spawned somewhere in the region of Poland and I sent my starting muskets and 2 settlers to Africa in search of oil. Well that didn't go so well as I ran into Japan and we got involved in an epic battle for control of north africa. I founded by second city at Suez and the third over at Gibraltar to secure the mediterranean, however Japan had gobbled up pretty much all of Africa. This war went on a long time to where there were a total of 8 citadels (yes, 8) planted between Suez and the Japanese capital and it was still a stalemate-- nobody lost a city.

Then last night it got even more interesting as Persia who had started over in North America decided to take advantage of Germany and Japan going at it for centuries to come in and try and scoop our coastal cities. So we decided to finally call a truce and turned on Persia which was awesome because all we had was a handful of subs, but we wiped out his entire battle fleet of carriers, battleships, etc. So that was cool until Russia (who was actually in Russia/Afghanistan area) also decided to attack us and joined forces with Persia.

At this point, it's not looking good for me as I'm at war with 2 civs on 2 fronts and I still have failed to acquire any oil, so I've been fending off bombers with AA guns and mobile SAMS exclusively, with no way to build planes or panzers. I finally did lose one of my cities at the end of the session last night, my 4th city that I'd built to the east of Berlin to give a buffer between me and RUssia. Thank god I had that foresight otherwise it would have been Berlin that went down already. So it was late and we saved it there and I'm looking forward to see what happens next. So far we still have 2 passive players that haven't joined the war, but it's for sure a world war epic of a game. I'm not even joking about the citadels thing, it looks hilariouos. There's basically a bridge of citadels... 8 long between my one city and the Japanese capital.

Just doing smaller maps on lower difficulties to try things out. Monty is even crazier now with building as many satellite cities as trade routes and feeding food to the capital. Tried out France. Actually won cultural faster as other civs since you gotta wait until Museums to really start reaping the UA. Almost need to get cathedrals it seems or you overload on Artists until Renaissance. Think I might try China or Arabia next depending on my mood.

Standard, Pangaea, Deity. I'm Persia vs Morocco, Korea, Babylon, America, Celts, Indonesia and Denmark. Lots of luxes nearby allowed for five cities early, but I settled for four and made Marrakech the 5th. Marrakech had Hanging Gardens so I built the National Epic there for a nice guild hub. My capital got Pyramids and Oracle thanks to lots of saved up forest. Korea bordered Marrakech and got upset with my warmongering ways, and teamed up with Morocco to strike back. Sejong had gatlers vs my crossbows, but the AI sucks at using them so I got peace for all his GPT. Didn't want to take cities because then I would border Harald who I planned on keeping as a friend until only his capital remained. My social policies were full Liberty -> Fine Arts & Cultural Centers -> Secularism & Free Thought. Plan was to take the two golden ages from Aesthetics for my conquest campaign. With GWB and Artillery I burned an artist and went west for wonder spammers Washington and Boudicca. Had to keep some huge cities, but after getting most of the tourism wonders from them there was no risk of ideological unhappiness hits. With Bombers I tore through points leader Babylon and got rid of the only Apollo in the game, then I backstabbed my long time friend Gajah Mada. Only Harald left now since he wiped Korea. Only a few turns left, I'm bordering both Copenhagen and Seoul.

Edit: Done. Turn 286 domination victory. Plan was much inspired by Moriarte's Liberty Domination strategy, along with my big desire to use Persia in BNW. One of the most enjoyable games I've had, altough I was cruising for the most part. Unlocked Master of the Universe, because depsite my love for Persia I had not completed a single player game with them until now. Thanks for this thread! I need someone to talk to. Civ is a lonely game... At least for me! :D

Sistine Chapel! Technically Renaissance, but the beeline is fast and you won't have to keep your second artist waiting long with appropriate tech path. Engineer from Henge/Pyramids + Workshop can even rush it. Or you can dip into Aesthetics before finishing Liberty to get a free GE for Sistine.

MP PitBoss among good friends. I'm the Mayan and I'm right next to Arabia, Zulu, and Venice. Venice and I are basically trade allies, and I'm negotiating a deal with Arabia to gift him a newly built city in exchange for basically an alliance. I have a ton of Crossbowmen built along the borders with the Zulu since he now has Impis. Far to the east the Germans have been picking on the Koreans until recently, where the Koreans have tied me for the tech lead where maybe 30 turns ago they were 5 techs behind. Venice makes the most money, I have a religious monopoly over everyone but Korea, and Korea I assume makes the most science. The Zulu and Germans have the largest armies, but excepting the Impi they are technologically inferior now.

I am currently playing as China on Contients with 14 Civies on.

Aiming for a science victory, but went completely off on a mad conquest rush after fighting off the Incas. Which resulted in me taking over a tribal country, slaying the ottomans while crippling Austria at the same time with a medium sized, but highly professional army of knights, Chi-bows and swordsmen and pikes. In the last 1000 years (about 100 turns in game) I have spent about 70 of them at war, while at the same time boosting my eco. Problem is I let my science slip purposely, part because I needed to rapidly build up an army in the late classical era, and the necessary to build up a powerful gold base for when people are less willing to trade with me, but also to experience what it is like to be behind on science (I am on King, I plan on working up from there eventually). I pretty much exploded in 170 with 200 science per turn, so likely I will be using my conquests to produce more science and gold.

People comment China is dull, but the rapid frequency of generals, plus the early gold boost and scarily broken unique Crossbowmen meant that I could spread my army out and still be exceedingly effective. However I am still a while off world domination, as Rome has been building a gigantic empire while beseiging the Incas, the moment the wall of china goes down (ironically, the incas stole it off me on the last round of building it)

I would be geninuely terrified to find China at my door after this. In all honesty, I kind of wished Japan would play more like this, with a good early game building to allow them to build a powerful early game eco into a mid game blit
