Don´t mind my spelling i am from denmark

When i play i focus on:
The size of my population (lots of cities and big growth)---wonder=PYRAMIDS
The money (get the great library so youre sure you won´t get behind in tec, and boots your tax rate) ---goverment=Republik or Democrasy
The happines (get so many of these wonders as possible, if you don´t you does´nt get any, it wont be good to change to republik in the start of the game) ---wonders=Hanging gardens-orackle-Michelangelos chapel-Js bachs cathedral
The city defense (build warriors in the citys and build Leonardos workshop) ---wonder=leonardos workshop

Play well and dont get into war with anyone, and make your civilization so big as possible
About year 1900 start building millitary units like howitsler

And kick some assss!!!!!!

My civ page (in danish) not finished - yet

Per,

I find the use of spies, extremely profitable.

I use exactly the same wonders.

I also insist on Hoover Dam and womens Suffrage.

I wish i could destroy Civs early but prefer to blast through with Armor, Howitzer.

Am just back to Civ, expect big Emperor Deity scores to follow.
Last King game 11803 944%

I like taking on the AI with my howies and tanks in something like 500 AD

Ancient combat is much more interesting in my opinion as far as conquest goes, but it is usually a lot bigger challenge than in modern times. There are a lot less resources in ancient times and the units just aren't very powerful. So, when in a game of conquest, I usually follow a similar route as Per does..........

For me, there's 2 times that combat is ripe to start.

1. In the beginning all the way until feudalism.

2. After leadership.

The gap is because after feudalism, defense has a huge advantage, because pikemen are 50% stronger against 2 movement units like catapults and knights. After gunpowder, defense get even stronger, but after you get dragoons, offense starts to get the advantage.

Um Vlad, I hate to disappoint you but pikeman dont get that bonus against catapults. Only against mounted units.

Catapult only have 2 movement when its 2x moves. Pikeman would be a little too good if they got the bonus for every unit that moved 2 or move spaces a turn.

Sorry, forgot about that! I've been playing 2x so long... But still, catapults are weak and easy to pick off. Say you have 4 knights and 2 catapults. The enemy can just have 1 knight and one pikemen stationed in his city. When the knight attacks, they get killed by the pikemen. When the catapults come close, they will get destroyed by the knight stationed in the city!

Catapults are not as bad as you think Vlad. In single movement they are really vunerable but in 2x, they can kick some but. Espically if you place a pikeman on the same tile to defend them.

I hate playing with 2x movement. The units just become way too powerful. Much more powerful then they were designed to be.

1x games are the only way to go if ya ask me

You are probably right Drake, units are to powerful in 2x movement. But becuase i am lazy i cant be bothered playing games in single movement anymore

No Vlad, pikeman get there bonus against every mounted unit. If its got a horse or an elephant, pikeman get the bonus.

2x movement? As in CHEATNG, by modifying Rules.txt? And I thought we were all purists.

(Say, don't you change the Great Library to expire with Computers, Fearless Leader? Yeah, so, the Chinese have it right now...what's your point?)

2xmovement and 2xproduction are two options you can take when you play multiplayer Civ.
To make the game faster..

For me the best way is to play a small or normall map (else a game takes too long) and built 2 (small) or 4 (normall map) cities.
Igo too republic as fast as i can and then boost my cities too 12 with luxury rate. Go for sanitaion and go to cities of about 20 then i am sofar ahaed to ai players that i mostly quit the game then (LOL). This way a won a deity game with 4 cities (and never made more )on a large archipellago map. For multiplayer games it is almost the same. Only that you probably most build more cities, but more cities means more time and i like too play multiplayer games of a maximum turn of 2 minutes.

Normally I either play total expand, expand, expand or I have around 20-30 cities and play a perfectionist game.

Very interesting.

So in single player, you make it a large archipelago map because the AI is crappy at expanding to other land masses, thus stunting their growth.

In multiplayer you set the time limit at 2 which fits your strategy of just a few cities better than an expansionist who won't have time to manage all his cities/units. I mean, 2 minutes isn't hardly enough time for a fundamentalist to even load his transports with the masses of attackers that would otherwise come wipe you off the planet.

I've never even played deity, let alone won at it, so I admire anyone who has done so. But it does seem you are stacking the deck somewhat to favor of your own strategy.

I must agree with you.
Except that when i play this style on a continents map i get the same result.
And for the multiplayer timelimit it is because i can't afford the time to play more then 3 or maybe 4 hours at a row. And when playing an multiplayer game with a time limit of let's say 10 minutes with 4 persons is 30 !!!!!!!!!! minutes waiting andf that is $#$^# too much atleast for me. Cause then i don't enjoy the game anymore. And i have tried but it was horrible.
