If we're posting favorite strategies, I generally:

1. Build new cities until constrained by geography/enemies (doesn't take long -- I like a small map).

2. Go perfectionistic, shoot for wonders, and focus on getting a big science lead.

3. As soon as I've got railroads I give the tech away to the AI which obligingly build networks between all their cities.

4. When I've got howitzers and everything is connected by rails, conquering the world is easy work.

The best strategy is : Build settlers. As many as you can! But what does everybody think of this: One city (the one with the best production usually) rushbuilds a barracks and than produces phalanx for all of the surrounding cities. Change the support status of the unit once it gets to its destination and you have a veteran unit in every city without the early monetary drag from a bunch of barracks. You can also produce all of your offensive units from this one place (if the situation allows) Granted this is a tad risky but is excellent for really getting alot of settlers from your other cities. Any opinions?

I hate playing with 2x movement. The units just become way too powerful. Much more powerful then they were designed to be.

1x games are the only way to go if ya ask me <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>
