What is Your Favorite Unique Unit?

For some reason, i like Navy SEALs. I don't use em in defence, I'm very conservative with them and get very upset if they lose. They are quite a good unit and I should be building Tanks, but I just like Navy SEALs. I only build tanks when I'm not playing as Roosevelt (He's the only leader I like for the Americans)

For usefullness:
Praetorian
Fast worker, but the indian traits are BS for peacemongering imho.

For style: Panzer

Got to be the Redcoat for my builder-style.

I like the cossack too, and the Cho- er, Chinese crossbowman, that was a pleasant surprise, I recall. At least it was the first time it was my UU, being on the receiving end of it was the reason I played as the Chinese next game!!

The Redcoat doesn't offer much options on top of what a rifleman can do - just better odds against grenadiers. During this period the English aren't likely to lose cities to grenadiers but they don't provide any expansion to the role of riflemen. For attacking cities defended by riflemen the grenadier is better. Both the grenadier and redcoat are weak attackers against infantry. The only expanded role the redcoat gets is when attacking musketmen a unit with a short shelf life.

Cho Ko Nu takes a defensive unit and makes it a decent unit to use offensively against stacks of units thanks to collateral (aided by multiple drill promotions thanks to both Chinease leaders being protective). It becomes available with machinery but the first real threat to it doesn't arrive until guilds (the knight).

The difference in versatility between the Cho Ko Nu and the crossbowman is considerably higher than the difference between the Redcoat and the rifleman.

well first choice now is the beserkers they are just awesome, they were great in civIII too. second samurai ive always enjoyed using them and had great luck with them, unless i come up against the CKN then its a draw lol. i havnt tried the CKN but i want to as they are the only unit that has been able to fight the samurai to stand still. the redcoats havnt impressed me i run right over them when i face them. the prats are tough but hardly unstoppable. i havnt met them in the game yet but am dreading the jannasiry they look like they will be a big improvment over the mustketman or musketeer.

I like the Mongolian Keshiks. I satisfy the requirements to train them as soon as possible, and then set them out on a neighbor to screw up their tile upgrades, take/raze their cities, trade tech for peace, and gain xp & $$. Once I've handicapped/destroyed one civ, I move against another civ.

The Keshiks are nice because they can quickly move into the territories of other civs with impunity since they can move 2 squares regardless of terrain type and often times the AI has no spearmen to combat my Keshiks this early in the game.

I have to say that all of the UUs are good in certain situations, and I've exploited all of those situations. (When you study Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, and Rommel, you can ;) ) My favorites (That haven't been covered):

Ottoman Janissary- Punish your enemies who don't upgrade to Gunpowder units.

French Musketeer- I don't care what people say, I believe the Musketeer is powerful. It serves as an early gunpowder unit that can move almost move as fast as the Impi. Combined with Napoleon's charisma, these lil guys may not have a big window, but that EXP carries over to Riflemen.
