Remake of the discussion "what is your fav way to win?" that civdude 95 started.

But this time with the proper amount of options. :)

I voted "Whatever happens to be the most interesting for the current game." But I can't really say what makes a certain condition interesting for a certain game. I do, however, always disable diplomatic. I never liked that one.

Uuummm... there's no poll? :D

The GOTM statistics are of some relevance to this subject. Many games do bear out civdude's assertion that dom and space are the most common VCs.

The the forum software works, post is first posted, then the poll is created, and added.

I pre-typed all the options and copy-paste it in the "create poll" page, and you still managed to view the thread before the poll was added... :crazyeye:

Conquest. Sometimes domination. The other options take too long, though I was experimenting with 20K for some time, which need not take that much time.

This has changed over time, I used to be a builder. To be honest, I rarely ever finish a game anymore. I tend to loose interest when my position becomes too strong, when it is just a matter of time that victory will be achieved. I normally start a new one then.

I like to do multi-wins. The most satidfying is a seven-way game, which I've done twice; the hardest thing to engineer for this is the diplomatic win because it's not easy to Dominate and still have the AI vote for you.

I almost always select conquest but end the game once it's clear who's going to win because I get bored. The worst part with having multi-options is that a game might turn out to be very interesting in one respect only for the legend "Congratulations Pyrrhos, you have achieved a cultural victory" - aaaargh!

And edit my post after looking up that link.

Space race, but only because it is the easiest. (And I am a science fiction fan  )

I like 100k empirewide culture. Some players (including Sirian) will say that 20k single-city culture is more subtle but I disagree. With so much culture crammed into one place, what you get is a primate city, which to me just doesn't feel right. I have won in this way (just to see it could be done), but that's my opinion.
Generally, I'll take whatever looks easiest come the endgame, and have won games in every way except Conquest and possibly Histograph, but I do like culture. I'm still a builder at heart even if I have to clear out a continent just to pursue a goal since I moved past Warlord (and I think I'm about to win at Monarch for the first time--stay tuned for a brag.) :D

I'm surprised no one voted Domination yet.

Its just like conquest in many way, except that you don't need to bother with mopping up once you've won.

I always switch Domination off for exactly that reason; there's no satisfaction to a win achieved halfway.

I am not really a hard core player, but I usually win through domination, however I try not to limit myself to that when I enter the game. Though when the AI decides they want to romp through my territory, just because.

Thats when domination seems to start, again, and again.

So the first vote for Domination, would be me...
This is the least I had expected, I thought more ppl liked domination.
My most satisfying wins have been on domination. I wouldn't say it is halfway, actually I think Conquest is more like a RTS win. Domination involves a lot more and can be done in MANY ways... having a couple monster metros and millions of small science farms to achieve that 66% of world pop, or evenly spread population on communism, or any other way... but the best is the 66% territory, which can be achieved by culture/espionage/plain war.
And it allows me to still have good relationships through the game with a couple civs I'm fond of, being Isabella or Joan, and sometimes even the first civ I meet and isn't annoyed at me :D
