What modern weapons do you use?

I think I got the hang of the old weapons, but now I'm wondering what most people go to war with in the modern era.

There are definitely lots of options...

This is what I build, let me know if I'm wasting hammers:

1. Modern Armor
2. Mech Infantry
3. Gunships
4. Carriers
5. Bombers

Is it just me or does it seem like if I catch a stack of units out in the open and I have a bunch of fighters and bombers in range I can pretty much decimate that stack and then finish it off with ground troops? Thats the only reason I like air power... plus theres so little risk, I rarely have a plane shot down... usually just injured.

BTW I had a transport sink one of my carriers... that was gay.

And I love gunships, only drawback is that they can't take over a city (just land, get out and plant a freakin flag.. sheesh!!

Dunno, I suggest ignoring planes unless the enemy has entered the era before Modern. Attack w/ Tanks and Gunships before MAs and Mech Infants. Mechs are better for city defense than attack, usually.

The units I hear people talking about the most:

modern armor, gunships, bombers

Bombers.

They're fast: they can rebase to any city in one turn, and hit a target deep in enemy territory the next turn.

They're powerful: they can destroy city defenses or do collateral damage.

They almost never die: they get intercepted and damaged sometimes, but they rarely get shot down.

Bombers can blast all the enemies in an area down to half health, then your ground units can easily clean them up and occupy the cities.

Bombers and tanks, bombers and tanks. You'll want a few fighters, a few gunships, some infantry-ish city garrisoners ... but the heart of the modern army is bombers and tanks.

bombers; fighters(under 10 or so - to send in 1st so they get intercepted instead of bombers); gunships galore(can strike and get back to safety); for assault, small stacks of mixture.

Carriers galore if you just want to stall someone on another continent(park them in his face, make sure you have a good fleet, and start pillaging their teritory for free)
