What mp fps are you playing?

I'm still sticking with Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam Pc version. The game I've put most hours in during the last year. Great game in atmosphere, sound, balance and mechanics, some maps are very good, but all could be improved. Baserape and spawnkilling can occur on basically any map and some are favorable to one of the sides. The selection of maps are also too small. The movement is poor compared to Bf3 and there are bugs and glitches in it that will never be fixed due to poor support. Cheating occurs but seems to be sparse. There are usually a couple of 32 player servers where people play frequently. Teamplay is encouraged with squadmechanics and appropriate classes, some sort of voice communication of course improves coordination a lot.

The obvious advantage this game has on bf3 is the historical setting. There's no need to grind your way up to the laser attachment on a sniper zoomable F2000. There's some leveling to be made in Bf:BC2 also but the AK47 will never bring the matches to a sniperfest. There are mortarstrikes in Vietnam, but the occurrences where you get killed without seeing an enemy are infrequent. Tanks and choppers are good, but can still be very vulnerable. The balance and pace just seems better and more suited for good gameplay.

I hope Bf4 is set in WW2 or Vietnam, but it seems unlikely. As far as I can tell Bf:BC2 Vietnam is the best there is right now, for a mp FPS in a historical setting.

What multiplayer first person shooter are you playing at the moment? Have you played it for long? Pro's and con's about it?

I've mostly been playing Team Fortress 2... I have about 720 hours played in total.

Team Fortress 2; almost 450 hours.

Payday: The Heist is a great 4 person co-op game; premise of the game is that you're professional burglars. A lot like Left 4 Dead, but requires different tactics since the enemies can, y'know, shoot back. Also, you get upgrades for your weapons as you steal more money and level up.

Payday is one of the worst FPS games I've ever played. The enemies are not very good at shooting back, or uncannily good at shooting back depending on the difficulty, the guns are clumsy and you are fighting against the dumbest police force in the world since they are apparently willing to storm the building in human wave attacks and lose a few hundred officers to take out 4 idiots in clown masks. The heist ideas are cool and/or hilarious but that is about the extent of their good ideas.

As for good FPS games, I haven't really played any for a while, but the only one I really keep going back to is Red Orchestra 2.
Pros: Excellent gun mechanics and atmosphere, has voice chat and at least some team work. Requires more thinking and focus than other shooters.
Cons: Not enough combined arms maps yet but one is coming.

I've also been playing a bit of TF2 again lately, still has way to many silly and sometimes just plain dumb weapons that really clutter up the game and go against original design, but its nice to play with a few people I haven't played much with for the last couple of years again. It also helps that most pubs are hilariously bad at the game so getting a lot of kills is easy (hell the AI is more difficult to fight sometimes).

EDIT: I also regularly play Napoleonic Wars although that isn't strictly in 1st person and I play a lot of cavalry.

Been playing Natural Selection 2 lately.

I'll grant you the stupid police force, but is there any other way they could've done it? Just having the police sit outside and wait for hours wouldn't make the game much fun, although it would've been cool to trade hostages for body armor and things like that. I thought the special forces were a nice touch.

Like you said, enemy accuracy seems to depend on the difficulty and that seems fine by me, if the hardness of the game scales up. I thought Hard difficulty was a decent balance between the easiness of Normal and the super-accurate Overkill; plus knowing the basic layouts of the map can negate some of the super-accuracy you were talking about as cover placement is pretty good.

The guns are initially clumsy because you get get upgrades as you level up. Since you level up pretty fast in the early levels, the first guns you unlock become useful very quickly (The default AMCAR-4 Carbine and Locomotive Shotgun are a joke compared to the unlockables, but you get the latter pretty quickly).

Nuclear Dawn probably, although it's been too heavily patched as of late. It used to have this really delicate balance with very few elements, now they have added a lot of fluff to the game to keep it going (that and that the newer maps are not that good).

I'll probably give Natural Selection 2 a try in time.

I have a feeling Battlefield 3 will be the last multiplayer FPS I'll play.

TF2, BF3 are good stuff. Also I just grabbed Natural Selection 2 and its fun. Yes you may ride the struggle boat at first but once you start learning the ropes its so fun. I love how the 2 sides play so different. I Haven't tried being a commander yet. My buddy did and lead us to a swift victory. Game also looks really nice.

Some of my friends also recommend Tribes if you got the time.

Since they already did WW II and Vietnam both, that probably won't be happening, yeah. Plus there's the 2142 version...

BF 1942 had some great mods, which unfortunately I can't run anymore.

BF4 is coming out next year and its a modern shooter. If you pre-ordered the mediocre CoD wannabe Medal of Honor: Warfighter you get early beta access.

I have no intention of getting it.

I played a few hours of CS:GO when it was free weekend. Was alright, felt more of a patch to CS:S than a whole new game though, so I can't be bothered buying it.

Occasionally still play a bit of TF2, but that's fairly rare these days.

How do you know it's set in modern times? It's likely, but I haven't seen it confirmed yet.

:(
Yea, I don't see how it wouldn't. The engine will be practically the same and the gameplay can't diverse too much from bf3. They probably felt it was justified to get a good start on the new generation of consoles. I wonder how much they will be able to push the game. It must've been constrained by the limitations of the xbox and the ps3.

Of course, they did modern time most recently, so what's left? It seems they're going modern times again.
I wish they would've kept their initial word in releasing bf1943 to the PC... I thought the reason for not doing so might've been that they were planning a full fledged new Bf1942 for the PC, but that seems out of the question atm.

To me it seems it's too time consuming to enjoy fully and I'd rather pay upfront for a full experience. The scale is a plus, but I'm more immersed in a historical setting and often enjoy the weaponry and pace more in those too.

Been playing Natural Selection 2 lately.
It's a different kind of game, but how's it going? Enjoying it?

Just go the Anti-matter rifle w/ IR scope and the LMG Recon in BL:R. Man those are some really fun weapons to use. My next weapon purchase with be that revolver sidearm.
What do you pay for them?
