I was making a witty, albeit out-of-place, remark of taking in Cherokees because they have discovered alphabet, which is an unique feat amongst native Americans and ditching Chinese because they haven't. Perhaps a ;) would have made the point clearer. :) What I am referring here is the reason why Cherokees were wanted in the first place. But, anyway, if you can't get the joke with this explanation, perhaps it is better to forget it and live happily ever after :)

No offence ment by anything, by the way. I guess I should go asleep - this is the second time I was misunderstood this evening...

You're not the only person who was misunderstood. :( Check out my post again. I said that "the Cherokees were the only ones [Native Americans] to do all of these." All of these means: printing a newspaper, creating a unique alphabet, and being literate. I didn't imply that other tribes never bothered with writing. I was saying that there was no other tribe who did all three.

Yes, you are certainly correct, but the point which was addressed by Ribannah was the alphabet (or atleast so I thought, as I was commenting on that), which I had commented that was not unique - whereas I have earlier said that the newspaper is (check my first post in the first page, quite up).

And don't take it so personally ;)

Status 2004, April the 21:

I will do a status of the 7 favorite civs sometimes (to see evolution)

7 civs picked :

Hebrews
Poland
Abyssinia/Ethiopia
Polynesia
Mali
Khmer = Sioux/Comanche (plains indians)

And don't take it so personally ;)

What makes you think I took it personally? Wait, don't answer that. You'll make a "witty, albeit out-of-place, remark." :p

I'm trying to build respect for the Cherokees, for I'd like to see them as a tribe in Civ4. I'm not saying that they are better than the Aztecs, or the Incans, or the Iroquois. I only want some Cherokee love, know what I mean? ;)

And I'm in the way, eh? Well, go ahead now then, I think I'll shut up on this one! :D

And by the way. I think it is a fine idea if they were implemented. I would like to see one N. American and one African civ more (while being not from N. Africa - I mean the Africa that is south of Sahara, as it is a whole different Africa...). And of course one from Oceania and one from SE-Asia. I think that'd do the trick. This way we would have less European civs compared to non-European civs. I voted for Hebrews just because I would really like to see them there - although they are just another civ from the Mid-East. Poland would be on my list, but for abovementioned reasons that is something I don't support.

Thanks for being such a sport! :)

Hebrews/Israel! But, I think they should include as many civs as possible (remember CTP?), and allow for adding of infinite ones.

EDIT: ARGH! Sorry, I misread the dates on the thread, and thought it said "June 21" :wallbash:!

Weren't the huns actually Mongolians, or have I completely lost it?

They were, but I don't think their racial stock really exists anymore.

I believe the ancient Mongoloid people were a lot more "caucasion" looking than most Asians. I think the Turks would be descended from them.

This is all fine, but what will adding many more civs add to the game? If you want specific civs it is easy enough to mod and there are many leaderheads and user created UUs in these forums.

IMHO, We have enough civs now, I never play with them all because by the time I get to the latter ages my computer is running too slowly, even though it is quite fast, if they tried to accommodate everyone's choices there would be much too many, would their time not be better spent on modifying other aspects of the game, if you're unhappy with the >30 civs there alreayd are AND the uncountable numbers in the Creation and CUstomization dept. you shouldn't be so bothered. Rename the civ you;'re playing as to Brazil or Cherokee or something!

And I have to say, Cuba? Why not put Nicaragua or Equatorial Guinea? All the American civs except for the natives were European colonies and so why should they start from the beginning? I only agree with American inclusion since they have been decisive in the 20th Century, what has Cuba done except have a revolution and bring the world to the brink of nuclear war BECAUSE OF AMERICA AND RUSSIA. They are nothing special.
Same goes for Poland, it was created in 1914 and all thats ever happened is its been a target for German and Russian expansion. The Prussian and Bavarian and other Eastern European tribes are suitably covered by Germany and Russia. No need for Hungary either.
Australia and Canada are British/French settlements and remain European allies, the only thing either of them has done is participate in the World Wars.

TBH, It would be better including Macedonia as seperate to the Greeks.

Most of the civilisations who have made an impact on the world are already represented, and there is no need to add more to the game except in MODS, which should be done by users anyway.

I voted for the Hebrews because you may love em, you may hate em.. but the game of civ caters to both. Create the vast Hebrew empire or turn the tables on the 7 day war and lead the egyptians to victory over the Isrealis. Its all fun and good.

I voted for Poland, up to when it was partitioned by Prussia, Austria and Russia it seems to have been influencial in history.

I think they should include as many nations as possible. it is fun to play your own nation.

esperito... poland has been around for at least 1000 years the cossack uprising in 1648 they overan a chunk of poland

Are you sure? Look at a Middle Age Map or just play with the Middle Ages conquest? Poland was created in 1914? It makes me laugh...
Poland and Hungary could be in the game, they weren't superpowers, but they each had great empires... if they won't increase the limit, they shouldn't be in the game otherwise they should be there if they introduce 8 new civs...

Modern Poland was created in 1918, but Poland was an independent nation until it was partitioned in the 18th century by Russia, Prussia and Austria.

Personally my two choices are not in the list; the Phoenecians should be included and I see no problem with having both the Phoenicians and Carthage, we already have both England and the USA. The others I would choose are Austria, the Hapsburg Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire were a dominant forces in European and world politics until WW1 and it was a centre of European culture, Mozart was Austrian after all.
