What path should we go on after military tradition?

Demo path: Printing Press - > Democracy
Artisty Path: Printing Press - > Democracy - > Free Artistry
Just get navigation
Just get musice theory
Magnetism: Physics - > Magnetism
Theory of Gravity: Physics - > TOG

Democracy all the way. I see no reason why we have neglected this government as long as we have. We need to get this tech as soon as possible, and change governments right afterwards.

Democracy! I would rather we revolt and switch to Republic, it is a much better government than democracy.

Theory of Gravity: Physics - > TOG

This makes most sense if the push towards war continues.

shur... lets get military traditions right after we get military tradition.... care to read the first post/title? ;)

ill get a tech tree, in a few minutes...

  I'm an idiot. Let's get democracy since everyone wants it so badly.

Astronomy gets you sea routes.
Navagation gets you ocean routes.
Magnetism won't help us in our trading, unless we're trading soldiers...

Democracy, straight for democracy. Very strong trading technology, and the best government in the game. Trading it around will also give us an advantage, even if we do not want to switch to democracy. The AI almost always switches to democracy, if we monitor the AI closely, we could strike while there in anarchy.

I agree with donsig. The AI goes right for Magnetism after Physics - let us go for ToG, and trade it for Magnetism, and voila, we're in the Industrial Ages. The AIs already got a head start on Democracy, so I doubt we'll get to Democracy first - even if we do, we won't be able to trade it for much as they would've put so much beakers into researching it.

Democracy!!!!!!!! its the best goverment. And then the enemy wont be able to speard us there evil propagander (this is been happening way to much :crazyeye: )

.... oh yeah and death to Iroquois

What's the point in getting navigation when we're only two technologies from magnetism (unless we want Magellan's Voyage)?

I think you overestimate the AIs. They don't have chemistry or printing press yet, so I think we could get magnetism and ToG before the AIs get magnetism, or we could get democracy first. If we go for democracy and then ToG, we might be able to buy magnetism (but we may have to sell technologies). If the AIs act the way I expect them to, they will research navigation, economics, and music theory before researching chemistry or printing press. They will also research metallurgy and military tradition before researching physics. There does seem to be a random factor in the AIs' research priorities, however.

As I said above, we should get democracy as soon as possible. The sooner we change our government to a democracy, the sooner we start to benefit from the improved research, commerce, and worker productivity. Getting democracy now will shorten the time it takes to get any subsequent tech. By denying ourself the improvements democracy provides, we are effectively holding ourselves back. Certainly not something a responsible government should do.

Yes, but the AIs had a head start on Printing Press. They could research it next turn, and then start on Democracy...

Why research optional techs when the game needs to move foward?

Why research techs the AI are close to getting and are going to get, like democracy? Research something exotic so we can trade it later.

I would rather have steam power than democracy. According to CivAssist, our unit costs would rise from 47gpt to 129gpt in a democracy and our corruption would fall from 123 gold to 101 gold. Probably the most notable drops in corruption I see are 86% to 68% for Rome and 93% to 71% for Port Solema. In addition, workers would work 1.5 times as fast. The lowered corruption certainly and faster workers certainly are nice, but I still think we should go for magnetism first.
