I am struggling to find a good balance in the settings to produce a good game. Either its too big and there is no one around me, or I am packed in with people?

I tend to like larger maps with more people and resources. Any tips?

Anyone? I had to start 4 games over already. I am 2 hours invested in this game to find out no one is on the same land mass as I am.

What map scripts have you tried? Have you changed the number of civs?

I would try a standard size map with default number of opponents first.Map script...either Pangea, if you want to meet the civs early for sure or Continents for a bit less contact and more naval action.

My current game is one on a huge "Continent" map and I play with full house... means 18 civs.Civs are a bit smaller than usual, but still large enough.Of course some early contacts and a lot of diplomacy later.

I stick with all the standard options because I think that is the type of map Firaxis probably balanced around. So I play on normal speed, standard sized map, standard number of civs, etc.

I like epic/large/ 6 civs and my favorite map is inland sea, don't know why just like it alot. I like Ice age also. O and I use reg barbarians...lol they already rage no need to use raging. (shudders at the thought)

I have been using the Terra map instead of the continent map. I set it to huge as well. What I like about Terra is all the civs start on one land mass (the old world). Once you get the correct techs you can discover the new world which has barbarian cities on it. The result is that you will meet plenty of other civs early. You and the other civs will run out of space before you discover the new world, so you'll probably do some fighting at that point. Then eventually you discover the new world and the race is on to settle it/destroy the barbarians there.

I prefer Standard continent maps on Epic speed with 18 civs and low sea level (more land). I like being able to micromanage a few cities rather than 20 cities and also have contact with a bunch of civs who I can play against each other.

I agree with craigrc, the Terra maps are fun. A strange combo of pangaea and continents.

I seem to be in the extreme minority here, but I really like duel-sized maps with 16 civs. Everyone has one city, so management is simple and the games go by pretty quickly. Of course, you miss out on the expansion part of the game.

I also really like the maze generator. It's nowhere near realistic, but the game can be pretty fun on there.

I like standard, for the reasons given above. I think it provides the most balanced experience. Too many civs, and the holders of religion can get too powerful.

I also like Terra. Loads of fun.
