What size map do you usually play on?

i like large, but just played an epic game on large & it took me 115hours
kinda missed a few days of uni, but took me about 2 weeks! also my pc got lost for a long long time when i tried to expand to world view once in the late stages...dont think i'll do that again tho! think my next game will be standard normal.

I usually play on standard maps but Huge maps are fun too because theres more to explore and more citys to build. But I usually don't play on huge. I not really a fan of small maps although they are fun if you want to play a quick game.

Want to play huge

drooling over a huge earth map i wanted to try on marathon

But 3GHZ processor, low res graphics, 1GB ram dies on huge maps ;(

Huh?

I run Civ4 on a 3Ghz laptop with only 64 Mb of video RAM and a mere 512 memory, and it runs fine--assuming you turn down the graphics to low.

For me, if it's not huge, it's not a game.

(Multiplayer accepted, of course.)

115? Good lord. My experience has been that Civ4 goes much faster than Civ3, so I can't imagine how you played that long...were you conquering the whole map? If so, on what difficulty?

FEXFX Marathon 1200 turns- Smart Map V7 by 'Surt'- Huge; 13 or 14 Civs. Mega big and long. Athlon 3500-1 gig ram-ATI x800 pro. Some slowdown later on. A CIVILIZATION game.... sounds epic to me.

I usually play on Standard size maps.

i was on noble difficulty, epic speed, large map, domination, but i gifted a few cities at the end to keep below 62% so i could attack another civ. got up to 1890. 1 declare war turn took 2hours to execute!

i micro-managed everything. workers, cities(tiles, citizens etc) :scan:

Most of the time, I play on small maps.

I play on either very small, or very big!

Once I played on a duel map with 17 other civilizations! We filled up the world before the ADs!

I play Standard/Marathon/Noble.

A real-time feel re Techs and Unit longevity, but a lot to do with marked lag from about 1800A.D onwards - biggest map I can play to the end!

My laptop starts lagging on "huge" maps around 1000 AD, on "standard" maps around 1500 AD.

Last weeks I play a lot of Duel, Tiny or Small maps with max (17) opponents.

Standard normal seems just enough to get a truly global feeling in usually 4-5 hours tops. theres no problem with my machine either its an alienware:)

Huge pangaea, 11 civs. No problem, but a small lag with map trading.

Win (space race, twice close to domination) on monarch with favorite leaders (Catherine, Frederick, Qin and Gandhi). Trying new leaders and strategies. So far, a few unsuccessfull attempts on emperor ...

All that with normal speed. Now trying epic, just to see if the very annoying AI instant unit upgrade becomes less important, for there will be time to use your army without upgrade.
