I was wondering how many people play with significant mods. Myself, I tend to play with a micro-sized mod basically changing a few resources and some purely cosmetic tech changes. What level of mods do you play with?

Feel free to advocate advocate some less drastic mods, but particularly interesting micro-mods since that is my main interest.

For the poll, I thought the following vague definitions may give some guidelines.

What size of mod do you usually play with in CivIV/BtS?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unmodified: Straight Civ/BtS pure official product with no changes (or as pointed out later only Solver's "patch")
Micro: a small number of changes that are relatively insignificant and/or cosmetic
Minor: a very small number of significant changes or quite a few smaller changes
Medium: a number of significant changes, a very large number of small changes
Major: still CivIV but very significant changes to the structure of the game
Total: does not play basic CivIV/BtS but rather one of the "variants"

I play unmodified, except for the HOF mods that are needed to compete in the Games of the Month.

I assume we can ignore Solver's patch as being a "patch" instead of a mod?

I always play with my "custom" mod that implements some extra information and fixes, as well as a few balance adjustments (I gave ships Blitz, for example). Probably fits best as "minor".

Good point. Yes that is my intention. Solver's "patch" is basically considered standard, even if unofficial, for many players. It does muddle the definitions a little, but it sounds good to me, and it is at least consistent with the idea of the poll. I guess if I had thought about ahead of time, I could have included one more option.

So far, I am clearly in the minority using a micro-mod. I had expected more people to play with small levels of changes, but the super-majority favors an unmodified game. It's interesting, and I am somewhat surprised.

I play with EthnicArtstyles, and wouldn't want to go abck to vanilla civ after seeing the glorious ethnic richness of the units :P.

I have also added quite a number of ethnic units on this site myself to complete the African tech tree and vary modern units.

But gameplay-wise, it's Vanilla.

I'm playing with FexFX' mod for bigger map and better scaled Marathon game speed, also with Lt.Bob's dll that allows for 34 civs on the map. I don't use any other mods at the moment, but certainly will do so later. But i want to play a couple of unmodded ... well, "barely" modded games first, it helps me to determine which mods I want later on.

unless i feel like something extra different(like rhye's or ffh)..i usually run my own mod which i guess would fit under 'minor'
