In my most recent game, China attacked me. What's weird about it is....

-I have been peaceful with them since first contact, and routinely gifted them
-In fact, they had declared war on me in a turn where I had JUST GIFTED THEM!
-They had been polite since first contact as well.
-I didn't see any reason for them to attack me, all my military units were in cities, and I hadn't demanded anything from them. I've culture-flipped 3 of their cities, but I doubt that'd be the reason for them declaring war. Maybe they thought my empire had gotten too many people? I dunno...

I'm pretty new to Civ III, so...is this one of those things I'll have to expect from the AI? Hmm, they seemed so much more rational than the Civ II AI, too...

That's probably the reason. But they don't really need any excuse, they'll go to war when the fancy strikes them. I've had military alliances with civs that would suddenly switch sides and turn against me.

I guess the other side offered them a better deal.

Did there milliarty "out-number" yours? if they have a lot more troops than you then war is basicly inevitable no matter how many gifts you give them...

Thats the deal. NEVER trust the AI. They will attack sooner or later, especially at higher levels where they are producing units so much faster than you.
