What to do when Denounced?

When you are denounced, there are two reply options: 'Very well', or 'You will pay for this in time'. So do those two replies have any difference? what results do those replies bring?

As far as I know, they're just for roleplay purposes.

I don`t think the replies do anything different. I tend to choose `Very well`. I like the roleplay, but I wish it went further allowing you some small conversation. The ability to ask why or say several other things and get a set of optional responses such as `because you settled near us` or `We know you`re up to something bad`, would`ve been good.


Also it`s a bit strange that they get so upset when you denounce them in return as if it`s a shock.

Hehe, no kidding. They're all "It's ok for me to denounce you as a rotten, scum-sucking dirtbag to every other leader in the world (regardless of my continuing rampant sins against humanity which are for more vast and ignominous than anything you've done), but how DARE YOU denounce me in return!!! The noive!"

I thought the you'll pay in time has some minor diplo hit (not displayed when you hover the diplo status). Same when you reply "I'll settle where I please" and stuff like that.

Pretty sure it has an effect. After all, saying "our spies will go where they please" has a diplo modifier, so I figure this would too.

I dunno if the `I`ll settle where I please` has an effect, but they definitely watch to see if you keep your word if you promise not to settle near them.

Yeah, that one does. I responded to the wrong post- I meant to refer to the "You'll pay in time" vs. "Very well" responses, that someone mentioned. Those choices seem to provide no apparent difference in diplo status.

It would be much better, if denouncing would be possible only after some transgression and reason for it would affect diplo hit with other civs.
