I am thinking of upgrading my video card and am using the diplomacy animations as bench mark. Right now, the diplomacy animations are extremely choppy. I currently have a AMD Radeon R7 200 Series card. If your animations run smoothly what's your video card?
I have a GTX 1060 6GB (by NVIDIA - I think AMD's RX 580 is about similar in performance) and it was fine for my old display with a resolution of 1920x1200@60Hz. Now that I bought a new monitor with 2560x1440 resolution (and 15Hz more), I think I'll have to upgrade, too. So what's your display resolution and how much money are you willing to spend? Is it only for Civ or do you play other games as well?
Before upgrading you should also check which processor and power supply you have.
