Reception to Year 3. Following from then, I entered the private system, which had a better class of educator and a better class of person. Primary school was good, but high school was better - no girls, good opportunities, and some interesting situations.

My favourite years to teach would be Year 7 and Year 8 in the 6-10 bracket and Year 12 at the senior grade.

Elementary school (or primary school as we call it) was no fun in rural Ireland in the 80's. I was was taught by Christian Brothers who were, with one notable exception, a bunch of violent psychopaths. My only comfort is that they were all quite old back then and with any luck they've gone on to meet their maker and find out what he thinks of grown men who hit 8 year old kids.
The worst thing was that since corporal punishment was banned they would only really go to town on kids who's parents would beat them as well. The kids from nice middle class families (including myself) would get away with the occasional smack across the back of the head.

There was only one school in town so the only other option was a fee-paying boarding school. The situation probably wouldn't be any better in any other school at that time.

Elementary (Secondary I think it's called) was the worst and the beginning of gymnasium. I wasn't bullied, did well in school, lots of friends, but was depressed most of the time for no apparent reason

Primary School was a bit harsh whilst I took some stick from some older kids who lived near me. Primary School was until the age of 7 if IIRC. I started playing rugby at the age of 10 which is when the bullying stopped.

I'll second that advice, CH. Better to fail trying than to succeed doing nothing.

Junior High. The only place where it's not cool to have good grades, and, in France at least, the only place where 16-year-old have young, innocent and tiny 11-year-old to bully.

I said elementary school, because, quite frankly, I was the biggest loser in my class of 70 at Catholic School. I had next to no friends, and now, looking back on it, I see that I didn't manage to keep friends for very long. So now, looking back on it, it seems worse than it is, I'm sure, because it was probably just me that was anti-social sometimes. I can't really judge high school, seeing as I'm only entering my sophomore year, but it seems to be fun so far. Then again, maybe I'm the biggest loser there too, but I just can't see it now.

I'm not really sure how American school groups compare to Australian School. Here we have Primary School (Prep, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and Secondary School (Year 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12).

My most hated years were Grades 5 (second half) and 6. I had no friends, the teachers didnt like me, i was constantly teased, i was the most unpopular kid in the year level and my best friend was a digimon.

For me it was:
Elementary school: kindergarten,1,2,3,4,5,6
Jr. High: 7,8
High School: 9,10,11,12

but most systems put 6th grade in Jr. High

After discussion in the last thread about discrimination against individuals, I thought it interesting that some pople tlaked about high school, others elementary school, and others Jr. High. So what part of School did you find least enjoyable? I included college as part of "growing up" because it's still part of the educational process. Also: do you think that you are better off or worse off because of the teasing/harrasment you recieved?

Note: the poll is mostly talking about being teased and all that, but I'm leaving the option open to take it in a different direction.

I picked JHS as the most difficult time, but only by a short margin over Elementary. I was picked on all through school up until about grade 10, when it suddenly and mysteriously stopped. The reason I was picked on was because I was an easy target. I was skinny, geeky, and wimpy. Sometimes I did fight back, though.

The experience has done nothing but make me bitter. In some ways, it may have made me more capable of surviving under pressure.
