I still have this machine in storage in another state!

I assume you're talking about first computer, not necessarily a DOS/Windows-type machine.

My first was an Atari 400. This was before IBM made their first "PC" and destroyed^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h revolutionized the micro-computer industry.

Let's see...
CPU: 1.8MHz 6502
32K RAM (I had an "extended RAM" version.)
5.25" external floppy drive (HDD? What's that?)
Primary storage was cassette tape. :D
Monitor: TV
16 colors
40columns by 24 rows text / 320 x 192 pixels
OS: Atari OS in ROM, or loaded from floppy

does an apple IIe count? remember - with the open apple and the closed apple?

followed only by the Mac Plus - it ruled

Timex-Sinclair, 2k RAM with black and white TV, keypad (not a keyboard) and tape drive. Of course, I supplied the tape drive and the B + W TV myself.

Price: $100.00.

The first computer I owned is the one I have now, but the first one I remember in our house was an ole' school Compaq with 64K RAM and no harddrive whatsoever. We could play pong on it...

Sometimes I fanatasize about the look on my father's face if I could show him the computer I have now back in 1980-something. He'd be all like, "COLOR MONITOR?!" and "WTH is a harddrive."

TI 99/4A
3.3 MHz CPU (16-bit).
16kb memory.
Plugged into the TV - Max res: 256x192 @ 16 colors.
External storage on casette tape.
Built in TI BASIC.
Pretty cool for a kid in 1979.

I had a Mac I, no idea on the specs though, I'm sure they were terrible.... But I had lots of fun playing space invaders on that thing!:)

If we are talking the first computer (not limited to just PC), that would be my TRS-80 Pocke Computer from Radio Shack. It had 2K of RAM, and ROM basic. It had 2 lines of LCD dot matrix display, and was quite slow... but I could use it in my Engineering classes to great effect in 1982... esp. before Professors caught on that I could check their work & computations in moments from the back of the room, LOL :).

1st "plug in" computer was my Commodore 64.

My first computer was a C64. I had a tape drive that would take litterally 5 minutes to load "games". My dad also had a C64 but his had a 5 1/4" floppy drive! This was the first computer that I owned. The next one after that, many years after that, was a 486DX4/100MHz. That computer was frakin fast at playing DOOM. I put my stepdad's 486/66 to shame. ;) That was back when Cyrix made a good chip. Imagine that!

0.5 mhz 7.3 kram and 1.5 ksram. it had keys made of gummybears and u needed to type with a pin. Also it had a 1 line memory and a reset button (my fist!)

My first PC was an IBM PS/2 80286.
It had 640 KB of memory. I do not remember the size of HD.
But it was the most well built PC I have ever seen. It had a very quality keyboard which I still couldn't forget the feeling while I was typing with.
I was playing "Gorillaz" which was an example game that was written using QBasic that came with IBM Dos.
I still have the original IBM keys which were used to lock the computer.
Good old days...:(

I've still got all my earlier micros - they still work too.

BBC micro
Acorn Archimedes
Dell 133
Bits n pieces from anywhere and constantly upgraded PC

First computer I ever used was a Ferranti Sirius. Only input /output was via papertape!!
Then ICL 1900
Then IBM 360
Then DEC 10
etc
etc

First computer:

  • Fully selfmade
Oriented towards the KC-85 and KC-87
    16kB of memory
    TV plugin
cassette storage (great "music" )
    joystick support
    using a BASIC interpreter prompt

First PC:

  • IBM 286 compatible desktop case
    1024kB RAM
    30MB HDD
    VGA video card
    both floppies
    14'' Monitor

    playing Civ!! :yeah:

:D

The ones preceeding my first PC (Tandon AT, 80286 with 1 Mb Ram) were a Tandy TRS80, forgot the specs, will never forget the taperecorder with broken Play-key so a piece of wood was needed to play the tapes and load programs. The other was an Atari ST, the first GUI I had ever seen!

Zenith 8088
512 k of RAM
dual 3 1/2" floppy drives "everyone go ouu, ahhh please" :)
CGA B&W video

Coupled with a 486DX 66 - 256 RAM, acting as a low scale file server, soon to become a door stop.

Have new editions - but yet to finalize their arrangements, there will be a follow up. Once my new web server and assorted techno goodies is all sorted.
