Just curious, I know there's a bunch of thread with link to list of "acceptable" video cards. The problem is this, my card is on it, an FX5200. Even though it "meets" the minimum requirements, it's somewhat slow. Could someone list a specific card that they're using that's giving them "good" if not "great" gameplayability? And i'm talking about smooth gameplay on the HUGE map with all the civs. Also, list your system specs too if you like.

Edit: So far these are the cards that have been listed as "GOOD" and not just "EXCEPTABLE" like my Nvidia FX5200, you can cross that off your x'mas list.

Radeon 9800
-ATI 9800 Pro
Radeon X800XL
Radeon X850XT PE
-VisionTek XTASY VTKX850XTPEA Radeon X850XT PE 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO AGP 4X/8X
Geforce 7800 GT

I'll keep updating this thread as more people submit their card info. Who knows, this might become a sticky some day, one can only hopes.

Edit: Here's a link to the site w/ all the recent video chipsets and whether or not it will work. Beware, even if your card is listed, like my FX5200, it doesnt mean that the game will run smoothly.

I had an FX5200, it ran like asspoop

SO i switched to a Radeon 9800 pro. And it now runs fine.
Also, the only other thing I changed was going from XP SP1 to SP2
GL

I'm just asking because many cards on the list of "acceptable" cards are just acceptable, a lot of the cards on those lists are causing many people headaches. I'm just trying to find out where the line between "minimum requirement" and "recommended" lies.

I have an FX5200 w/128MB myself, it's on all the list of acceptable video cards, but gameplay is slow and game crashes sometime. I'll most likely wait a while for a patch before buying a new card, I hear they're working on it and several threads have said that Firaxis has confirmed, but it's good to know what I can buy and not feel like I'm throwing my money away.

The card I have, Gainward FX5200, I got a little over 2 years ago, for $69. I figured if I buy a new one now, it wont be as much of a waste. Then again, I don't play any other games other than Civ on the PC.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LIST ALL THE CARDS THAT YOU'RE USING THAT IS GIVING YOU "GOOD" PERFORMANCE, NOT "ACCEPTABLE".

Well i could tell you that it runs perfect on my Ati X800XL, but then again, id be furious if it didnt, the card is bloody expensive :P. But if you want to be sure, take this one...

Same here. X800XL works fine. Best card for the dollars too.

anyone else has Civ 4 running smoothly on their systems...?

hopefully ppl who got their game running without a hitch will still check out the tech support forum...and not playing Civ 4 every waking moments...then again, that's asking a lil too much. I'd be playing 24/7 if the game is running nicely with my FX5200, but it's not...

I have athlon xp 2400 2.0 ghz, ati radeon 9800 128 mb, 1528 ddr ram. Game works decent especially in the beginning, but some lag near the later turns. More so of a drag is the long time to load a game (if it loads at all) Seems like my system should be running better for this game, any tweaks i should know about? I have drivers updated and service pack 2 for xp.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I think the game just needs a patch of some sort, because with my setup there should be no lag, even in late game huge maps. :crazyeye:

I think I read that it could be a memory leak and you should save the game. Close out of Civ 4 then restart and open up your saved game. I heard that helps speed it back up. I haven't got that far into my game to verify. Let me know if it works.
