I was playing on an Inland Sea map. I cheated in an explorer at the left edge of the map. Over the next thirty-odd turns, I had the explorer work his way to the right edge of the map. This meant that my units had uncovered a tile in every vertical column, which I thought was the circumnavigation requirement. And I didn't get the +1 to ship movement bonus.
Does the bonus only occur in maps with edge-wrapping? I don't believe I've EVER seen anyone get the bonus.
